It has not been an easy route. I have had to learn alot along the way. I have lost friends and family and i have found a couple new friends too. I always say things like this happening in your life really points out who are true family and friends. If they are not true friends or family and can not support you then you do not need them.
I will get easier with time which is hard to believe at the beginning. You go through all the grieving of losing a spouse, child, etc (which ever your case is). The only difference is they are still alive. Your life changes in many ways.
Hopefully it will all help us in the end. I know that is hard to believe and i am one that constantly challenges that. Why would God allow this to happen to me and my family?? No answer but i am told it happened for a reason - what good reason? well i guess i can say all the things i have learned through the last 3 years and the things the kids have learned also. Life has been rough and there have been times i wondered if i would make it through it. Well here i am still here kicking and still by my husbands side. Which alot of people can not understand. Well as i tell them do not judge me as you do not know how you will feel, react, etc until you are in this situation. As i too once said i would never be able to love someone that would harm my children - well i learned i was wrong.
Take one day at a time, don;t look to far into the future. Come back and vent, etc anytime.
We lost friends also, they acted like they were concerned but now I think it was just to keep up on what was happening.
This is a whole new way of life that we are now living, my husband was released just over a month ago. He is on probation for 5 years. But being on the registry for life means that the whole court thing & sentencing & probation are just steps to be completed on our journey in this new life. I have actually taken up a challenge - I am going to fight for changes to be made to the registry beginning here in Idaho & maybe even set up someplace that family members of offenders can get together & talk personally.
He should be sentenced fairly soon, within a few months we're thinking. He has been nothing but cooperative. However, we are waiting for some information on possible federal charges. If they do have enough evidence to follow through with federal charges, we might be looking a very long prison sentence. This is devastating on so many levels. All we can do is pray and attend to make peace with this whole situation. I can only hope that once he sentenced, federal charges or not, I hope things will regain some normalcy. Granted, the media has him plastered everywhere, so as we are family, we all tend to look a like. That makes it incredibly difficult. Again, the only hope I have here is that as time moves on, people will forget the face, the name or association between them.
We have other family that would like to visit but because of family resemblances, we told them not now as we don't think it's safe. Which is so wrong. People shouldn't be afraid to go home, especially when they have done nothing wrong. I realize that these charges are disturbing and shameful, but it's one person and that one person is in jail. I just people would see and understand that and let things just be. Ignorance is bliss, right?
