I'm looking for some support from other moms or wives whose LOs are incarcerated. Rew has been very helpful to my son and I throughout this whole process. My son is not only a SO he is a former corrections officer. He went to the reception center a month ago and once classification found out he was a former CO they immediately put him in PC which in Florida is confinement. They processed him and sent him to a prison 45 minutes from here which was great BUT he saw an inmate he interacted with on a daily basis from the prison he formerly worked at. He made the mistake of going to classification to ask how he should handle it and they immediately put him in confinement. He can't serve 12 years in confinement. He is young and scared. He knows with his charges that he should keep to himself and not draw any attention to himself, but the CO thing concerns him because the other inmates will be curious why he is in there and he will be quickly outed. He does have a cover story as Rew set him up with that. I can't talk to him or visit him at this point. I just want to see him get settled in there. I think now they are going to transfer him. I am worried about his situation. It's hard enough going in there as an SO but a CO too. As a mom I can get really scared he is not going to make it. I just need to hear from some other moms. And yes, I know he shouldn't have went to staff but it is already done at this point.
I cannot comment because he is in a state system, however, prison works the same no matter where you go, hence what I had written that day.
I truly feel for what you are going through. It feels like you are darned if you do and darned if you don't, and it's no lie that he is in for the fight of his life. It will be possible...though not easy.
The only thing he has going for him is you right now.
Remember, it might not be every day because CO's are lazy or mean or whatever, but segregated inmates that are housed in SHU's or Special Housing Units are supposed to get 1 hour a day outside. It is cruel and unusual punishment for 24/7 solitary confinement. If he doesn't get that then he or you can sue for that right.
I wish PC in some states didn't mean solitary confinement. I'm glad CA doesn't put people in solitary if in PC; it's just a special yard for former LE/CO's, former gang members, and SO's. They have access to programs, dayroom, etc just like GP.
Rew has given me a lot of helpful information on how to help hubby, and he has found them useful. Hubby doesn't act wierd, that will cause people to assume he's an SO. A lot question or assume he's in for something entirely different. It's all how he carries himself.
