I'm new here. My son accidentally downloaded some cp thru limewire. Like many of you I've spent over $100,000 and have forensics to prove it.. altho the prosecutor and judge just put that stuff to the side and gave him 30 months in Federal, 15 years probation and lifetime on the list. He's been in for almost 4 months, now in Coleman Low, FL and having a really tough time there, as the COs pick on him constantly. They took away his rec priviledges a few days ago because he brought his guitar back late (he's a musician). Life sucks.. but I've been an optimist my whole life and I"m trying to look at what can be done for him when he gets out.
I want to move out of Florida but I can't seem to find info on this moving out of state thing, while on probation. Florida is one of the worse places to be with this kind of thing.

I own a business that I can move anywhere. So I can take that with me. My son has a job when he gets out and he'll have a place to live.. but I don't want to live in Florida. Our attorney said one of his clients was not allowed to move out of state during his probation.

Thea, Welcome to our group! There are those here who have dealt with moving out of their original state they were charged in and hopefully can give you some advice in that area. I agree that Florida is one of the worse states to be in on the registry, I have heard that stated on more that one occasion. I am so sorry your son is being harassed at Coleman. My son is in Oakdale and has dealt with countless issues with the guards as well. It saddens and angers me when there is nothing we can do about the treatment they receive behind bars, or if we try, we will create a dangerous environment for our sons. Again, welcome to our group and hopefully someone here can help you with your question about moving.

Hello Thea! Welcome. There are many here who have loved ones who's crime is cp. My son is spending time in a Federal prison in Texas for this situation. Can't answer your question about moving out of state while on probation. You have some time to figure it all out. Hope things improve for your son.

We're still in the courts, sentencing for my husband in March 9th.
I hope you find this place to be a solace as I have in the last few months! My thoughts are with you all!

All I know is that we were told that when my husband gets probation that he won't be able to leave the state, but we have yet to get more information on it.

Hopefully someone else can help you with these questions, there are a ton of great people here to help!

Yeah, that's true. Have a friend in Fl. and he is having a terrible time. He said he was sorry that he ever transferred from Texas. Parole can approve an interstate transfer request, but they don't have to. Fl. has to approve it as well as the receiving state. Good luck. I wish you and your family the best.

I helped my son transfer his parole from Texas to Oklahoma through the Interstate Transfer Compact system because he was homeless and we had moved here to take care of elderly parents. It was a little difficult but finally everything fell together. However, I was so upset that even though Texas never required him to register, Oklahoma did, but we have to live here now and we are trying to survive. I suggest you research the interstate compact commission, I will see if I can find some info - it has been 4 years since we did it, so I have forgotten a lot of the sources. Good luck.

Thank you all . . I'll look into that Interstate transfer but won't plan on it. Florida is just sooo bad when it comes to this stuff, the cops here are ruthless. I don't want him to go back in for some silly probation problem. I've actually thought about moving to Costa Rica after he gets done with probation. That's years away. But it's the only country where a SO can live without the label.

My son also got in trouble through limewire and the DA tried to make it a federal case but luckily the feds decided they didn't want it & he was sentenced toa yr in the county jail with 5 yr probation. However, they made him plea guilty to distributing when he never had any intention of distributing. So he's on the registry as a tier 2 instead of a tier 1 which is 25 yr versus 15 yr registration.

My son just spent his 22nd birthday in county this December. I don't know how the prosecutors and judges sleep at night.

In Florida the registry is for life. Even if he moves to another state he stays on for life. For the next 70 plus years he's under the control of the government. Unless things change.

I hate hearing about all these young lives being destroyed, and for what? My fiancee lost years of his life to the trial, sentencing, and jail relating to his crime - he couldn't even graduate high school because of it. He is the sweetest, kindest, gentlest person I know and no one gave a damn about him when HE was an abused child. Sorry, rant over. You are among friends here and feel free to vent as needed.

FL sucks for SOs from what I've heard, but in turn there are some very active advocates down there - I would get in touch with Carl Post of SOSEN/The Recovery Group - tell him Shana sent you. Message me and I can get you his email and phone number. He is an ex-sheriff who knows these laws inside and out.

It's the only country my son can live in and be a free man. Our attorney told us that a few of his clients moved to costa Rica. Living is a bit cheaper.. but most that went had money to move. I, fortunately, can save up and move eventually. My son has 15 years probation after these 30 months and all I do these days is work. . so I'm thinking about it.
