I am sorry. This is very hard news to deal with and there will be lots of grieving involved for you and your son. You both are in my thoughts and prayers.

Honest, I can't even begin to say how sorry I am to hear this. The part that makes me really angry is the fact that judge took him knowing he had a problem and twisted it around. Knowing you have a problem is the first step to dealing with it and getting it fixed. How in the HELL do they expect a person to "get themselves help" when the only "help" they give them is PRISON!? Therapists are required by law to turn them in, so prison is ineveitable. They virtually make it impossible for a person to get help because everyone knows how it works. I wonder if that judge ever thought once about being in the shoes of someone with a problem and how HE would handle it himself. They could save tons of money and lives (victims too!) if they would just set up treatment programs and at least try to help them before they decide they need to lock up and throw away the key. Did they ever stop and think that "pedophiles" "can't" be rehabilitated, BECAUSE THEY DON'T EVEN GIVE THEM A CHANCE??? They don't bother to even TRY effective treatment, just half-assed (excuse my french) and lock them away. This is why I NEVER turned my dad in. What he did was wrong, but he was my dad and I loved him, even though I knew he had a PROBLEM.

My heart goes out to you today. I am 4 years into my sons 20 year sentence and I know exactly what you are feeling right now. It is more devastating than experiancing a death in my opinion because you now have to watch them suffer for the rest of your days. I can tell you that you will survive this pain, even when there are days your not sure you want to. You can and you will and so will he. The fog lifts and the pain becomes a dull ache and then miracles of all miracles, little by little, you find your way back out of the dark. I am here, we all are, if you need to talk or vent or cry. Hang in there and dont give up faith....Thinking of you today with a caring heart.

I am so sorry to hear this happened. You have my prays. Some thoughts on what you can do to help your son: Make sure he has some money on his commissary books. Most prison commissarys sell a short list of food items. It might not seem much to you but makes you (the prisoner) feel better when your locked up and have nothing. Also, the commissary sells boots and shoes. Many of the people I know, I have helped to buy them boots, shower shoes, etc. Again the little things matter. Go to Barnes and Noble and send him something to read every now and then. They have to mail these, you can not. Also, write, write, write. Nothing is as disappointing as going mail call after mail call without anything. You might not be thinking of these things right now but it will help him a lot. I try to do these things for folks I know. At least I'm doing something.

As the others have said...stay strong both for you and your son. He needs that support more than you can know. I wouldn't have made it without my mom.

I am so sorry that your son and family are going through this. I don't understand why the court system does not use treatment instead of imprisonment. This is an addiction and should be handled accordingly. I can understand facing consequences for your actions. However, 20 years is ridiculous!!! This is the reason the prison system in the United States is so over crowded. There are people in there who should be receiving treatment instead of imprisonment. Honestwitness, I am praying for you and your family.

Honest, I am so sorry about your son. I know how your heart aches. Hugs and prayers are sent to you long distance. I know it is tough, especially during the holidays, been there and done that. Just keep in touch with him like you planned, and let him know you are there for him. When my son was in, I found the nicest small stationery shop who mails writing paper, envelopes, etc. direct to inmates. They also had cards, puzzle books and calendars. But first you have to find out the requirements for your state as some don't allow colored paper and certain items. Most of the companies who mail direct already know what is allowed. I did a search for Texas approved vendors and found the store that I used, called "Rosies Graphics", a small business that is fantastic. My son always got his package right away and it made a world of difference for him. Most book stores will mail direct also. I also found some prison ministries who sent religious materials. I wish you all the best in strength and hope even though it seems hopeless. Take care, and bless you and your son.
