My son was "labeled" in Nebraska. It seems to me that all the psych "doctors" pound that into their heads, while they are in the correction center, and probably in their pre-release evals. I had to keep telling my son that just because they labeled him as one doesn't make him one. His situation was that a girl, almost 16 years old, was trying to convince him to have sex with her. He kept refusing. One day she was trying desperately to get him downstairs into a room. He turned frantically to me saying "mom". I new that she was up to no good so I told her "no he can't go downstairs with you". He was about 23 years old then, so other than tell her that, there was nothing else I could do (especially when I was at work). I recommended that he get a restraining order against her. He had friends take him to do that, while I was at work, and they took him to the police station. The officer wouldn't let him take his friends with him, told him that he didn't need a lawyer when my son asked for one, and started in talking to him. After a little while, it turned into an interrogation. In her deposition she said that he did not do anything to her at first, but after awhile she changed her story. There was no time/date stamp on the video taping of the interrogation, it was fuzzy and choppy. Yet the lawyer we hired to help him said that we didn't want it to go to jury trial because they could at least prove attempted. We were duped into taking a plea bargain, and plead no contest, and my son spent 1 year in Omaha Correctional Center. He suffered a head injury while in there, besides the trauma they put him in giving him psych testing and trying to convince him that he was a "sex offender". It took me a couple years to convince him that he was not what they labeled him as. Another thing they tell them is that they will be back as a repeat offender. So naturally I had to convince my son that he was not going to ever be in that situation again.I decided we all needed a fresh start, besides the fact that I couldn't afford to keep my heat going (and was facing a Nebraska winter without it and facing foreclosure on my house). So I packed my four children and pets and moved out to Arizona, after registering the move. When we registered my son with the state of Arizona, they said that Nebraska had a problem with my son not registering his move, but nothing ever came of that (thank God). We spent about 1 and 1/2 years in Arizona with no problems from the sheriffs, but ended up going back to Nebraska to try and sell another house that I owned there. About 9 months later I moved back to Arizona with my youngest son. He got harassed a lot in Nebraska by police/sheriffs, after I left. Every move he made he registered, with witnesses, but they still sought hard after him for failure to register. Eventually he ended up homeless, so I paid for a plane ticket for him to come back to Arizona. On the day he left Nebraska, I had it lined up for his 3 cuzzins to pick him up take him in to register the move, and then to the airport. What a nightmare. When he got in to see the sheriff, they told him that there had been several burglaries in the area, and he was the prime suspect! They insisted on taking him to the house, where he lived, and questioned another of my sons on weather he lived there or not. they were trying to get him on a failure to register again. After getting verification, they started questioning him and saying that they knew he was the one who was committing the robberies. I was listening to a lot of it on the phone with one of my nieces, and told her to immediately go to my son and tell him "lawyer", and he would know what to do. She did, and my son just kept repeating "lawyer", like he was chanting it. They made some threats to his life that day, in a round about way, but eventually got weary of my son asking for his lawyer. They told him he could go. But my son reminded them that he had not filled out the paperwork for the move to Arizona yet. The sheriffs told him that they didn't need paperwork, and that he could go. On the advice of my sister, I told them to get the hell out of there, since he was running late for catching his plane. The sheriffs followed them for awhile, so my niece pulled over and got out of the car, and asked if there was any thing else they needed. They replied "No, you are free to go, have a nice flight.". So off they went. In every town all the way from Genoa, Nebraska to the airport in Omaha, they had a sheriff/police car following them. My son did make his flight and got back to Arizona. According to Arizona law, you have to register within 3 days after the move, so we went in on day 2 after the move from Nebraska, and registered him. The sheriff here said that Nebraska said he failed to register the move back to Arizona. When my son tried to explain what went on, the sheriff told him that it didn't matter, "this isn't Nebraska". To this day, my son really has had no problems, other than finding a job. We have registered every move, and is living on my property here, where he never (we hope) has to move again. Now all we have to do is keep up with the yearly registration. The sheriff verifies the address, and that he is living there usually one time, with a move or yearly update. They don't bother him at all! :) My son doesn't even have to be there, just has to have a neighbor or someone around for the verification. My son has been here in Arizona since March 18, 2010, and had to move 3 times, 2 of those were because he didn't have a job and couldn't pay rent. Now he has no rent, since he is on my property, so at least he will never have to register a move again. It has been really peaceful here, and people get to know my son for who he is, not what he was labeled. Of course we are very selective on who we tell his story, in Arizona, because it is easier for him to be killed here if someone found out his label before they got to know him. He also gets food stamps and medical, but they won't be taking any new applicants for state aid after the first of July, for people who don't have any children in the home. Eventually he may not be getting them either. Yes, I advocate Arizona for people in this position. I hope the best for all of you, may God be with you. Hang in there. I don't know if you have ever seen a little picture with a big stork eating a frog, but the frog has his hands tightly around the stork's neck, and the caption is "Never give up!" Pokeywub

Nice to see you here and glad to have you to help other's who need advice. There are over 500 members here now, in which some of them just are looking for hope and guidance. So it's nice to know we can look in your direction for both!
Welcome to our group!

Don't laugh, I live in Utah and there is still a law on the books that makes premarital sex a Capital Offence and the only LEGAL way to have sex is in the "Missionary" position, with a Church Elder watching to make sure you don't deviate.........This is a " no shitter", though obviously not enforced, the laws are still on the books!!!!!!!!!
