I am so sorry. I just went to my brother and father's sentencing yesterday and it was brutal. They will only be gone a year, but I understand what you mean about how it all feels like you tried so hard and the judge just didn't even give it a second thought.

The judge for us was so dismissive of everything we tried to do. We knew it wouldn't make any difference as far as their sentence was concerned, but we had hoped that she would at least be a bit kinder to them after reading how many people were there for them. God forbid we treat people like humans.

Hang in there. At the very least, at least your son can read those character letters and see the support and love that he has. I just sit here reading the letters sent in by their family and friends and remember that at least some people see what I see in them.

My son is taking a plea deal of 25 years straight time. When the 25 years is up he has to register as a predator, lifetime gps, lifetime probation. We live in Florida and the Jessica Lunsford law is why he has to do all of this.

Was this a plea deal, or did he go to trial? If he didn't plea, he can always appeal and attempt to get his sentence shortened.

Reggie I am so sorry for this harsh sentence. It seems like there is no fair sentence for a "sex offender" its a cruel harsh world out there for sex offenders and it seems like no one understand that people make mistakes and shouldn't have to pay for those mistakes with their souls. Try to keep your chin up and maybe some good will come out of this. And we are here for you reggie

My heart goes out to you, I think I understand how you feel, my son got 10 years, and 10 years probation in NY State, and Montana is trying for 15 years minimum.

Sorry Reggie. I feel your pain. I remember being in sixth grade when my oldest brother (not the one who is an SO) was sentenced to 9 years in prison for assault. I remember thinking 9 years might as well be a lifetime. It too passed and eventually he came home. Its painful when you put in perspective how old they will be / you will be when they are finally free again. ** hugs** we are here for you .

amynmesa, You hit it spot-on with the comment about putting it in perspective how old they/I will be. I keep thinking "he'll be 40" and "I'll be 64" and with some of the health issues I have, I keep wondering where I'll be in 11 years. None of the health issues are really serious, but I used to be so healthy, and the stress makes me worry about a heart attack, especially since my mom has had at least 2.

Reggie, very sorry about your sons sentence. Try to stay strong and healthy, as your son is going to need you for support.
