I see other people post on FB about how "so many years ago I gave birth to my son" blah blah blah.... I wanted so bad to put that on FB today about how special this day is to me every year but I knew people would think I am crazy because of where my son is. He has made mistakes, he is paying for them but that does not destroy my memories of what a terrific and wonderful son he was or how much I loved being his mother. Happy Birthday DJ. Donna65738, I understand exactly how you feel. My only son is in your son's situation. There are few people that I can really talk to about this who will understand. As Mother's, we will always love our son's and cherish the memories of them growing up. It may sound strange, but I have always been very proud of my son. I haven't always agreed with his decisions and certainly not the decision that put him where he is, but he has done other wonderful things. People shouldn't be judged only by the worst thing they ever did.

Donna, Your son is still a terrific and wonderful son. He made a mistake, like many others before and after him. It does not define him or stop him from being who he is. If you love him, love him. If you are proud of him, be proud. I know it's hard, almost every day. But just because it's hard, doesn't mean we quit. Stay strong! Celebrate your terrific, wonderful son's birthday.

Donna, I understand how you feel. My son has been in over 2 years now (2 birthdays). No matter what, they are still our children, we will always love them.

I know where you are coming from - I went through a period of time that I felt that way. I was still proud of my son as I always had been but people that knew about him I figured would not understand. Finally I decided that it is not about them at all. It is about my son and our relationship - so I decided I would say and post things as if all were normal and if they do not like it that is tough!!!!!!!
