i so wish i could give you an answer or two but i can't. the only thing i can think of suggesting, and maybe you already have is to check into the registry laws in indiana before you move. make sure of safety and acceptance first. make sure that you will all be allowed to live together there.
Indiana does have restrictions on where you can go and make sure he can live with your son if he's not legally his father.
Below is from IN law:
(f) A person who is required to register as a sex or violent offender in any jurisdiction shall register for the period required by the other jurisdiction or the period described in this section, whichever is longer.
I'm on edge and extra angry now because on Friday, some @$$hole decided to print out his entire page from the DPS website and stuck it in every single mailbox on two roads. This did not come from any official office, just printed on regular computer paper. Worst of all, they said he was charged August 28, 2014. This happened in 2010. He has already had his tire slashed twice and can't even get to work now.

Needless to say, I want to move, I want a fresh start, I want to leave. This town is getting bad and dangerous anyway. I had heard that if you get approval from your state, once your probation is up, you can get yourself taken off the list.
I want a better school, a better life for our son. If my boyfriend and I stay here, he is definitely registered for life and I will always be looking over my shoulder in a town full of nothing but hurtful memories. I have to watch my back all the time even though I didn't do anything.
How do you know that a fresh start will be good for your family in other state? Do you have family there?
Will you have a job, support system and money for a good home? Are you just running from one person that is harassing you and BF? If you are that is a very poor reason to move, there will always be someone where ever you go that will attempt to harass you. Think about moving to a bigger town or city where you would have a better chance of employment, or at least live on the outskirts of one. Do not allowed a few people to make your life miserable.
Can you enlighten me on at least the general area you live now, East Tx, west etc.
Are you involved in TXvoices which has a great support system and monthly meetings in most major cities?
Has BF completed his sex offender treatment? Does he have a good job or trade?
As of now you’re BF is going to be registered for life no matter where you move, he will go by the laws of Texas.
And last, it is very difficult to get a transfer to another state unless you have family there, mainly BF.

What I don't know is when someone's obligation to register starts - when they are released from jail?
So if he's in jail in TX can he be released to IN and thereby never fall under the clause above because he's not obligated to any other jurisdiction? Or is he already on the TX registry and if so he falls under the IN law about being required to register.
And I said 'almost every state' because there were a few east coast states I didn't research in my own attempts to move.
Talk to a lawyer!

Whatever is longer.
Hugs.
