f8th4love, Don't fret. It depends on how far away from him you are. the letter could take a couple of days to get there and then a day before they get it to him. Then he has to write and it could be another 3 days getting a letter back to you. And that is if he isn't that far away. It takes time. Once communication is established then it will be more regular.

Also, even though they are probably supposed to give him things to write home with they may be "out" of envelopes, or pens, or paper, or.... so many things happen. You will probably get another call before you get your first letter. He is going to be SOOOOOOOO excited to hear from you. lol.

Also, understand he may be going through some things getting adjusted. He may seem a little off, or not himself. This is normal. It is also not permanent generally. Things will be fine...just breathe...and take care of yourself because you will be so important to him.

Like pointman said, it will take time for you to receive a letter back from him so don't stress too much-it's not healthy. I think it took at least a week after my husband received my letter for me to receive his.

We made letter writing interesting though. Each letter we wrote, we picked an age for the other to write about. For example, he picked age 11 for me and I told him how my love of Christmas came about; and I picked age 8 for him and he wrote about his first home after his grandparents. When he went in, we were married for about 7 years so we knew a lot about each other, pretty much everything, but picking an age made us think about specific situations that we went through, which made us into the people we are today. It was interesting and learned things I didn't already know.

@faithnlove , no right now he is in reception and that it is 3. 1/2 hrs away and he needs to mail the application signed by him in order for me to apply . Not sure how long will it be to be approved but he might be mainline by then. I have been writing giving him support and letting him know we think of him and pray every day. Your idea about the age writing is good but he has memory problems due to medication he took for ptsd, I don’t want to make him frustrated trying to remember things. Thank you for your support

I am so sorry I can only imagine how you are feeling I will be there in about a month or two that is when my loved one will be sent off to reception also I am still struggling with everything I know I need to talk to someone but not sure who.

@loveing mom , I’m here if you want to share. Also venting in this group helps a lot. Is being very hard but Finally today I got a letter which does not say much but as long as he is alive , positive and tells me he love us that is plenty for right now

Thank you to all I really am not adjusting well as I know its hard for all I am not ready for him to go to reception I can't think of not hearing from him. Then I herd once you get to prison you carry papers around to say why you are there how is that fair to inmates that will cause so much problems

@loveingmom I'm not sure what facility your loved one will be sent to but many facilities now have a separate section of the facility/prison they put people with sexual related crimes in for their protection. Not all facilities have that but some do. Maybe see if his lawyer can find out for him.

I am really sorry, it does get better though. My fiancé has been in receiving for a couple of months and I can only visit every other week. I’m stressing over him going to a medium facility (missed minimum by a point). Good luck! I hope both of our guys are home safe before we know it
