But does this make it a crime in Michigan. I know of a few sex offenders who are off parole who use it or have used it in the past. I am being questioned and I can't call up the police station until Monday.

AFAIK, ever LE agency submits the e-mail addresses of registered citizens to FB, etc. FB has a "no offender" policy. If you were using an e-mail address that you have not registered, well, that is the problem.

I cannot speak to Michigan law, and the website that Independent listed - I couldn't find anything on a quick search specifically for Facebook.

Out here in Virginia, "we" are not prohibited from FB after we are off probation. However the e-mail address used for registration must be registered with the state police.
