I just said this same thing yesterday!! If you want a law passed, just tag it onto some poor dead child's name and woolah.....there is another law!! When will the insanity ever end! Hey, y'all, if and when, I pass away, how about starting a law called Laurie's Law ....that there can be no more stupid laws made, k???

I just hate that they use a dead childs name for a law! It just is for shock value so the misinformed public will rally around it!

I read that some states were using only a 12 hour period for missing, and an one hour for death. I find it ridiculous to jump into making this law, it's ONE case!! For the state considering the one hour for death (I can't remember which one it was), I hope they take in account the fact that sometimes one hour isn't realistic. Is a parent going to charged with a felony for not realizing their child perished during the night suddenly? I once knew a family that lost their 13 year old daughter in the middle of the night to a sudden heart attack. They had no warning and weren't aware she had passed until the morning. Do these people deserve a felony charge? Hell no!

That is the problem right there, they react on emotions and not logical thought and then some poor soul is gonna pay a huge price down the road!
Where does the insanity end????
Can you imagine waking up to the loss of your child only to be arrested for it????

do you remember back in the day(i know this happened to me when i was a kid) and your parents reported you missing? the police said they had to wait 24 hours before they could do anything because the kid maybe a runaway............so what good would this law do? absolutely NOTHING except make every parent rushing to the police if their kid was missing for a hour for fear of going to jail and tying the police up from going after REAL crimes that are happening like a bank robbery or car crash..............or some clown beating up his girlfriend have people in the US really lost their minds? peace out and god bless..........

This almost makes me wish my children were still little....I would call the police every hour if they just disapeared from my sight....just to make sure I was in "compliance" with the law. I would be such a nusuance! Someone let me borrow a grandchild for about a day or two.....ha ha

I really don't see any purpose for this law. You have to report a death, anyway; if you don't deal with a body properly--alerting authorities, proper burial, etc.--you're committing a crime.

And, I'm assuming that not reporting a child missing after a certain period of time would already be covered under negligence laws.

The media get the public all riled up about things, and then lawmakers see a way to make a name for themselves by creating unnecessary laws.

How are parents who have a child who is "sleeping over" with a friend supposed to know where they are and when they went missing? Kids - especially teenagers - don't always tell the truth about their whereabouts or do what they say they're going to do.

This is going to be like with sex offenders a lot of innocent people and good parents are going to get caught up in the net because one family acted in what appears to be a bizarre manner.

Yeah - tack a child's name on it and everybody rallies around it without even fact-checking the reasons or actually reading the law - or thinking too hard about the potential consequences.

Cos, they coulda disapppeared, and I wouldn't know it right away

Makes me sick. Then I guess if this law was around 55 years ago my mom would have been arrested cause my sister died during the night of SIDS. She found her dead in her crib in the morning. Just add anthor stupid law with out thinking it through!
