Hey Everybody,

I don't recall seeing this get posted up here. This is very close to the message that we should be pushing. This has gotten nearly 3m views on youtube. In a nutshell, 95% of the people in prison are going to get out. Do you want them to be productive people when they get out, or totally hindered?

There are comments about the parole/probation system being a system of failure.

There are a few expletives during the monologue. The heavy hitting ones are bleeped out.

There was a recent thread about what gets people revoked? Well according to John Oliver, 2/3 of people on parole go back to prison. AND there is a 50% recidivism rate (I'm assuming that's a new crime? (Like spitting on the sidewalk)
There is also a John Oliver episode after Prisoner Re-entry it's called Public defenders aka meet-em and plead-em which is hilarious because it too is all too true.)

I guess the other 50% who don't go back probably "age-out" of impulsive behavior at east that's the theory most prisoners have about who "straightens up" and who keeps going. I bet with the "loss" of mandatory minimums prosecutors are going to be a lot more gung-ho about bitching people because the "crimes" you can send people to prison for life on don't have to be serious, just numerous...

Although his attempts at humor detract from the important things he is discussing, what he talks about really shows just how screwed up our national and individual state criminal and judicial systems are and how people get seriously screwed over

LegalGuardian People on Daily Strength may be aware of "just how screwed up our national and individual state criminal and judicial systems are and how people get seriously screwed over" but the general public still believes in the justice system (mostly because they have avoided the "system: all their lives" However since I thin these videos are aimed at the general public pointing out the ridiculous and getting people to laugh humor is what catches people makes them stop to consider the less funny actual reality. An I think laughter is a sign that we can laugh at our "captors" who only think they are our "betters."

It is more likely that his jokes were intended as the comic relief to prevent the members of his audience from getting depressed. While I get that, some of his jokes, to me, detracted from the seriousness of the issues he was discussing. Other jokes were perfectly fine and drove the point home further of what he was saying
