Oh my goodness, what a nightmare!

Just another excuse for the media to tell the public what vile creatures SO's are.

I really hope it wasn't him. I really feel for the family. I can't imagine having my child go missing only to find out they are gone forever :(

This is just another case of the media trying to make something into something it's not. The story itself is painful and newsworthy enough, they don't have to add the stuff about the dad. Even the sheriffs deputy said it has nothing to do with the case and the parents have been nothing but cooperative.

Yes, it will be terrible if the father did it, but if they aren't to that point yet the media shouldn't be bringing it up! The other thing that is sad is that the fact a little girl is dead is being overshadowed by the fact that her father was/is a SO. They dedicated more words in the article to finding out why the charges were dropped in the father's case than about the little girl that was killed.

And here is another thing I noticed. It doesn't say anywhere how the little girl was killed but they are already checking in with RSOs in the area. Are they already checking with people convicted of kidnapping, murder, or any violent crime? Oh, that's right, they aren't on any kind of list!

That is crazy! How is kidnaping a sex crime? It's like they don't want to start any new registries so they just add non sex crimes to the list. This world is all sorts of messed up!

@alik76: Kidnapping isn't a sex crime, but because it involves actions against someone's will, it can be used by re-election minded politicians to look tough on crime.

@IvyDog: Sad. SO's are presumed guilty. It is standard operating procedure (SOP) to review SO's whenever something happens like this. Easy targets.

In CA, they charge someone with kidnapping with intent for sexual abuse, so they can add them to the registry.

Maybe kidnapping itself isn't a sex offense, but anyone who kidnaps a child that is not the child's parent or guardian is required to register as an SO in the state of Missouri:

Any person who, since July 1, 1979, has been or is hereafter convicted of, been found guilty of, or pled guilty or nolo contendere to committing, attempting to commit, or conspiring to commit one or more of the following offenses: kidnapping when the victim was a child and the defendant was not a parent or guardian of the child;
