I don't know if this has been covered here yet, but I just found out you have to have a specific form -- Form 2848 -- in order to have Power of Attorney for tax purposes for someone else (good thing I was planning to go see him this weekend anyway). I was on hold for 15 minutes, just to get someone who barely spoke English, then was told I had to be transferred to someone else, where I was on hold another 10-15 minutes, and talked to a woman who was so rude! I told her I was calling about my son, and when she found out his age and I tried to tell her I had power of attorney, she cut me off to tell me "you need power of attorney." (duh) Well, then she started talking about where on this form it has the number to fax it, and of course, I didn't have that form because she hadn't said I needed a special tax form power of attorney....Anyway, I'm usually pretty patient, after all, I sat on the phone for almost a half hour and was still civil when I talked to her, but I really wanted to tell her off when she was rude to me.

I must say, though, that most people I've had to talk to regarding my son have been very understanding. Not sure how happy they'll be when I end up filing bankruptcy for him though, once the divorce is finalized.

Speaking of filing bankruptcy.......how do you go about doing that? I read up on it and the info I got says you can go about it different ways, but is it easy enough to do on your own, or do you need to go through an attorney?
