I have to also point out here, that my sisters and I were all molested, to varying degrees, by my father, and while we no longer communicate with him (mostly because of our mother's attitude), I personally would prefer to forgive him and have some kind of relationship with him -- assuming he would admit to what he did and ask forgiveness.
Your DIL's attitude can prevent the healing your GD wishes and needs because of her attitude towards your son. Remind them that forgiveness isn't for your son, but for them. Not forgiving actually keeps power in the hands of the offender. When we forgive, we take the power back.
I wish I had statistics on this, I've searched, but can't find any - as many victim advocate groups don't want the victim to work with offenders to help aid in their healing. But I have spoken to many victims, and they said they were able to heal, when they were able to talk with the offender, hear them admit to the abuse and see the remorse.
