Indeterminate sentence and parole violation

My son's sentence is 4 yrs to life for sex assault in Colorado. If he should get out on parole and then get violated by a nasty PO, would he then have to go back to prison for the rest of his natural life?

I am not a Colorado attorney, but if CO is like any other jurisdiction with indeterminate sentencing, then no, he would not go back for life automatically. He still would be eligible to be paroled on the parole violation. Essentially, the parole violation would act as a new offense, and he would be sentenced accordingly.

All the 4 to life means is that, on this offense and sentencing, he could be in up to life. But if paroled, then his sentence is effectively finished, at least in terms of the imprisonment portion. Parole violations range from the truly innocuous, e.g., drunk in public, to serious felonies. And such violations will be sentenced accordingly.

Absolutely horrible! And then I just learned on another thread that the Feds can charge for an indefinite time that's crazy too!
