Impossible Hurdle Regarding Probation & Reside

My son will be sentenced in Iowa on Nov 28 for a non-forcible felony sex crime against a minor.His lawyer thinks there's a good chance he will get only probation.The problem is that my son has lived with me in Missouri for the past 1.5 years, so he no longer has an Iowa address. I learned today that there is a strong possibility that, even if he does get probation only, he would not be released unless and until he has a home address in Iowa. This seems like animpossible hurdle.If he is even able to find anapartment in the next 10 days, there is still the possibility he will be incarcerated.So then he would not be able to pay his rent, and whatever deposit and first month's rent he pays would be a total waste of money. If anyone has any insights or suggestions, I would be very grateful if you would share them. Thanks in advance for whatever help you can offer.

He will need to talk to both Iowa and Missouri Probation, but interstate Probation Transfers are fairly common even with SO's

Try an Interstate Compact Transfer request, which transfers his probation to Missouri, or will allow him to be transferred to a Missouri prison if he is sent to prison in Iowa. It's a long shot but the only thing I can suggest at the moment.

They told my husband he would only get probation. He was sent to prison. I have not seen him in 6 months. Good luck. I would prepare for the worst they lie and tell you things won't be so bad but then it turns out terrible and your whole world caves in;. That happened to me now I am trying to raise 5 children all by myself. I was prepared for probation but he got prison time. All I'm saying is be prepared. We spent over 20,000 on what was told to us the best attorney in the state of Idaho. We did everything we could and the judge basically threw the book at my husband.. The courts, judge ect say they care about children and their safety but they have NO concern for my family and my children, we did nothing wrong but I have to pay for my husband's mistake more than he does. He only typed inapproiate stuff on facebook to his students. NO pictures NO contact. Just Typing words.

If he gets probation, I personally think that the judge would rather see him in a stable environment, then homeless. They could transfer his probation to Missouri, but it would be up to Missouri if they accept him because they would then be responsible for him and the cost.
Talk to his attorney.

My SO also was told he'd only get probation - we were all told that by MULTIPLE people along the way. I agree now that they all lie. Be prepared - unless you live in Canada which seems to be a little more likely to think about outside factors. My guy is currently in month 39 of his 4 year sentence...and then he has 15 years of monitoring on the outside with life on the registry. So much for what all those people told us...

My son has finally decided to expect prison, no matter what his attorney says. I told him I think that's a good idea, because if it happens, at least he'll be psyched for it. If he then gets probation only, we can all rejoice.

The attorney has told my son that he talked to the court and has gotten a continuance on the sentencing hearing. However, he hasn't told my son what the new date will be. My son has checked online to see if the court's website shows a new date. So far, it's still showing Nov 28, which is two days from now.

Is there any chance there could be an error and the hearing will take place anyway? I'm inclined to go ahead and drive the six hour to the courthouse anyway, just in case the judge is sitting there at 11:00 on Monday morning, waiting for my son.
