AND...anyone notice that.now that 'pedophilia' has morphed in the "favorite- once a.. always a.." label of all the haters mobilized to "save the Children" they are using statistics to 'prove' that since surveys of the general (un-imprisoned) populating indicate that "pedophiles" amount to 3-5% of the general population and the recidivism rate of "offenders" is 3-5% that that "match" proves that all perverts should be scientifically evaluated and labeled "pedophiles" because they "Knew it all along: just adjust the labels and affix their prejudices to their old "Once a "pervert" always a Hannibal Lector"/ stranger danger/child-molester/ monster" "tough on crime against "those people AND there fore...this proves (using their own circular reasoning here) in the words of Prosecutors and Haters ..."lock them all up and throw away the key" was and is the "always correct solution" no matter what the actual situation...

No matter what junk science/ they have to "quote" in order to shore up their prejudices....no matter what the definition of "recidivism" or who is included in the 'recidivism stats or how "recidivism" or (the new-pedophilia" is defined. Word are only 'useful' when they signal whatever the system and the haters want to use them to prove that their old ignorance was 'right' all along..

So....".Lies, dam lies and statistics" be damned!

I would agree that the IML is open to being twisted and interpreted in any way ones ideology demands and punishing black sheep that won't conform.

Sex offenders seem to be the new mass hysteria ( and I can understand that when you read about the few cases that make national news -children being kidnapped off the street, raped and murdered)

I don't think adults who have violated someones boundaries and exploited another person for sexual pleasure should be under the same umbrella as typical teenage mistakes ( that DON'T involve molesting your own sisters) I am not an expert; only sharing my thoughts. I have been reading this board for almost a year.

You know I mostly agree with you except for the part about "involve molesting your own sister" because often when children explore sexuality within their own circle of family and friends they themselves have already experienced "sex within their own families" and even if not what used to be called Playing Doctor" or "playing house" and (rightly) squashed is now criminalized.

Instead of having a supervising parent realize that the kids playing house have "gotten too quiet" and then doing the sensible thing, like going to check and them, telling all of the sex curious "too quiet" kids to "Stop That" in no uncertain terms and sending them, one and all "outside to play " Playing doctor is criminalized.

Today parents call 911. Criminalizing immature behavior seems to be the approved new normal. I think that's one reason so many youngsters end up labeled Sex Offender and sucked onto the conveyor belt of the "justice" system and end up on the Registry instead of receiving the "help" their parent's hope they would get when they (mistakenly) called 911 in the first place.

Even when a parent decides the interest in sex is more than simple curiosity, therapists and helpers have such severe ideas about "evaluation" and step in to protect by dismembering even the victim's family They are "mandated reporters" reporting to the court and ALL roads lead to the registry no because of the age of the "victim" they are then labeled Child molesters even when the "Perps" themselves ARE actually children. The word "child molester' then morphs into Baby Raper and the definitions and fears of Adult Rape and Pedophilia suddenly apply and ...the conveyor belt is set in motion to adult prison, the Registry and perhaps on to Civil Commitment for life based mostly upon the initial 'evaluation"

And for whose benefit...not the immature forever 'victim" not for the immature "Perp" ( now evaluated and labeled Sexually Dangerous Predator SVP no matter that it all started out as neighborhood kids Playing Doctor and no "predatory behavior" was ever intended in the first place. (except in the minds of the prosecutors and other adults building careers off fear of Stranger danger and scary "predators"

Trustnoone: In saying this I do not wish to minimize the harm done to everyone involved. I only point out that little real help is ever offered anyone involved...not even the victim (who they are supposed to be 'saving") no one is respected and actually helped during this rush to criminalize when every emphasis seems to be on punishment and not on restorative justice aimed not upon helping victim heal and be strong in spite of what happened, becoming a survivor who does not have to live in fear of even her brother or remain a forever victim to get the help of "Victim Advocates" to pay for therapy.

Wow, I watched the trailer. Looks very interesting. Thank you, Janet, for sharing this info and for fighting the fight. This insanity has to end in our society. Too many innocent family members suffering due to the handling of this crime and they, too, are also victims in a different way. There are no easy answers but something has to change. There is strength in numbers, so our voices must be heard.

Thought as Weak: So glad you asked: The MO Women Against Registry (WAR) Chapter is wanting to sponsor a screeening and our NV WAR group has applied. ( and probably others) The film makers are certainly open to others/ church groups etc sponsoring. I hope NV WAR can go in together with others in NV to support this. I would certainly like to see Legislators and attorney groups and other 'professionals invited?
