I actually deactivated my account... I couldn't take it anymore. What a difference it's made in my day to day!

I saw one on FB the other day saying they supported the death penalty for anyone that molested a child - it made me sick

I've stopped going on FB so much. I realized that reading the news stories and then the comments were putting me in awful and rageful moods. Some people are just idiots, and try as we might there is nothing we can do about it. The world is unfair, people are stupid and ignorant. Sometimes if I need a good laugh I read the comments on stories because some of them are so incredibly ridiculous. I think I'm subscribed to more cute/funny pages on it than anything else. How can a picture of a kitten being adorable not brighten your day?

I go back and forth on FB. I'm not on it to troll people or cause wars. I don't search for people I work with or people I went to school with that I haven't spoken to in years. I use it to look at pictures of what my family and friends are doing, share jokes or find recipes people are trying. My family and friends are all over the country and travel quite a bit, so seeing pictures and stories of that make my day.

The sex offender comments are disturbing. The thing I've noticed is they only post stories of the most vile ones, the true predators or they completely distort the story. Those are the ones that are reported, so unfortunately that is what people are going to think all sex offenders are.

The world is changing. For the good or bad? I haven't really decided yet. FB perpetuates a lot of the bad, but I have also seen some good. I stay away from it most of the time. I've found it to be more of a negative influence and I don't need that. I'm not in a position to fix what is wrong out there right now. I'm focusing on getting my life together and working on the issues going on that I know I can help. I'm there for my friends and family, the rest of the FB world, sometimes all I can say is "wow."

People are not just ignorant, but also hypocrites. They deem sex offenders the enemy to their children. What about the people who drive drunk and kill an innocent child, what about the murderers and killers who leave children without their parents, or are the victims themselves, the burglars and criminals who go to prison and can't be there for their children when they grow up? How do they get rated by society? I wished people would focus more on becoming educated than following gossip stories. Pretty sad.

I'm getting on FB less and less because it drives me insane! The amount of fear mongering without any research is enough to drive anybody over the edge.

i have posted some articles and shares on fb about SO's and at first there were a couple of rude comments.

now there are a few of them that are actually reading the articles and i've actually gotten replies back that i have kinda changed their thinking a little.

not much? but i think each chink out of the wall of blindness and ignorance helps.

I know how narrow minded people can be and it just burns me. If I had seen that post, I would have "lost it", I would have blasted the person who posted it.
I only use Facebook to keep in touch with family and friends. I will also share the occasional joke or funny picture. I keep my page private (just family and friends) and I still VERY SELDOM post anything. I think the last time I posted an "update" was in May when I hit a year cancer free. If it weren't for family, I would have no use for Facebook.

i use to think like so many of the others who have never really been touched by what concerns all of us. i was just as guilty of the ignorance and blindness that either some of the members face for themselves or face because a loved one has gotten tangled up and buried in the whole SO boondoggle.

i think that this is why i post what i do on my fb. i know that i can't outright and immediately change anyone's mind but i hope that i can maybe make someone curious and in doing so just maybe i can open a few eyes. if i can make them curious then they might actually finish reading the complete article and then maybe do a little checking out of things themselves. and that is what i think may have happened.

so yeah, i might get an outright, "anyone who does that is a perv and needs to be shot". but if i can change their minds or even make them wonder or think a little bit differently? then i can feel kinda satisfied with that.
