Hey All !!
I know its been awhile since I posted, but I need some input or perhaps some direction on which way to proceed.
My son, who is doing time in Yazoo City Federal Prison in Mississippi, has been denied transfer from there to another facillity.
A little background: A week before Thanksgiving, he reported homosexual activity taking place in the Chapel prison bathroom. I know many of you have stated on here that inmates need to keep their head down, and not to get involved. I agree, but you would have to know my son. He first reported this to the prison Champlain, who refused to do anything about the situation. So, he reported to the higher ups. Needless to say, word got around that he was a "rat", and his troubles began. All his food was stolen, his clothes taken and shredded with razor blades, and was physically threatened.
The prison personnel removed him from the "Low" facillity, and put him in the High security SHU (Special Housing Unit).
Then, prison personnel tried to persuade him to return to his unit. He refused. They gave him his first "shot". First one he has had in 7 yrs. They also informed him they could not transfer him unless he had received a total of 3 shots (incident report). A month of being housed in SHU, they came to him again, and again encouraged him to return to his former unit. Again, he refused. He received his 2nd shot, and had his phone priveleges revoked. Another month went by, and the third offer to return. Again the refusal, saying that he feared for his life, and would not return. Thus, his 3rd shot, and revoking of commissary priveleges.
He then was told that the paperwork for his transfer had been initiated. He finally got confirmation that his transfer had been signed by the warden and assistant warden. His hopes brightened, after being restricted for almost 6 months. He was preparing for his transfer to the Transfer Center, when his so called "counselor" informed him his transfer has been denied. In his letter, he did not indicate why the transfer was denied.
He now has been told he has to wait another 3 months before he can resubmit paperwork to be transferred.
He is becoming severely discouraged, and the latest offer was to be moved back, but into another unit. They asked him which one---and he told them----the counselor told him, he would see what he could do, but the very next day told him point blank, "This is not a negotiation---either return to your old unit, or stay in here 3 more months..." I firmly believe that this counselor simply has a God complex, and is going out of his way to make things difficult for my son.
I know prisoners are transferred everyday for a variety of reasons.....I think this is just some mental torture being performed and sanctioned by the Prison Officials.
My question is : Has anyone in here have had success in prison transfers, or know how I need to proceed to help get his transfer pushed through.
It just simply astounded that someone can be put in mortal danger for doing the right thing.
Todays prison tout their programs to curb sexual abuse and bodily threats....but in reallity, they really don't care what happens to inmates by other inmates......anyway...if anyone has an ideas, I am listening.

p.s.--- I also have been told that it is against Federal policy to have a designated "Low" offender to be held in a "High" security complex. Yazoo City just last year, I think, opened their new High Security USP.
The reasoning is, they closed the "Low" security SHU, and only one available is the "High" security SHU.
Thus, he is confined to his cell...he is not allowed out on the yard, because of this. Any thoughts??

I believe that after six (6) months, on e of his shots will drop off, but even if it dosen't, his custodial points are still under, and he should be transferred to another "Low" facillity.
I am not sure if he asked for protective custody, or was simply put there because of the situation.
I do know he did tell them he feared for his life, thus the refusal to return to his original unit.
To me, the whole situation is fubared.....He has never been in trouble since arriving there, and the threats to his life appear to have no sway to the people in charge.
