So, I was thinking about an idea to draw light on SO issues and what family members go though. I was thinking of getting some national television figure to do sort of like a Town Hall meeting on national television to discuss sex offender issues. Sort of like they have done to discuss school issues and major events taking place in our country.

So, what do you think? Moreover, how could this be achieved and who is the television personality that should be approached?

If this is a good idea I am thinking success would be achieved if multiple people and organizations wrote to the television personality to ask for this to be done so it does not come from just one person and shows a strong visible support. Suffice to say, they would have to have opposing views and even the views of politicians - that would certainly make it even more inticing and exciting.

good idea...not sure how to achieve it just yet and what about Diane Dimond? She seems to be interested in some of the stuff we have to say. She is or was on ET and Court Room Brawls or something like that. I would have to look it up again.

Well I was thinking and submitted an informal request to the Missouri CURE chapter to see if it is something that it would help advocate. Of course, if the national CURE organiation got involved and made the official request it would be taken more serious than if some joe blow off the street sent a letter.

As for the television personality, it would have to be someone well respected and trusted. Dirty shame Ted Copple is no longer in the business he would have been great. Whoever it is they have to be neutrual to the issues.

But we would have to make sure that this did not turn into an arena that entails only people with titles like doctors, lawyers, politicians, prison officials, and so forth - we want to also put a human face on this and thus family and even SO's and ex felons would need to have a voice and tell their story too.

Better yet, have plenty of titled people there - as the SOs. I'm sick to death of everyone thinking this label only gets applied to "low lifes." Makes it easy to not care about them. This happens to all strata of people. THAT is putting a human face on it. If the only SOs who ever get media exposure look like rejects from Hells Angels, we're not going to change anyone's perspective.

I agree with you Claire53. The idea here is to have all walks of life represented in one way or another to educate people and government officials about criminal justice and correctional issues - from what goes on inside prisons to what happens with SO's and those who associate with them.

John Stossel could be a consideration. He's done a few shows interviewing SO's , wives and other family members. His questions were fair and he wasn't condescending. He might be open to doing another segment.
