I am so sorry to hear of yet another parent going through the horror.
Our state does not allow them to go to camps either, no matter what. It does seem that they are setting them up to fail.

In the federal system they are not allowed to do their last 6 months in halfway houses and they do not have to pay for sex offense classes if they go to the one the Probation Officer choooses for them and they do not have to pay for supervised release either. My husband is on federal supervised release as a SO and they do make it hard but your son can make it if he learns not to volunteer info to his PO. My husband has 155 days left on supervised release which was a 3 year length. Now his PO is really doing everything he can to violate him but since my husband is doing what he is suppose to, his PO has not been able to violate him. however, since ny husband was not guilty of the offense in which he was convicted of we know how they can phoney up things, so please pray for my husband to make it all the way off of supervised release.

Oh freedomforall thanks for the infor and I do pray for your husband. Did your husband go to prison? My son got 25 yrs and 15 yrs supervision. My son has a friend that is going to a halfway house in a couple of months and he says that he will have to pay for it. I will pass on the info hopefully things won't change hopefully they will get better by the time he gets to come home to us!! I know how the PO's can lie and make your life hard hang in there!

In the Federal facility my son is at, they all feel the same way. It breaks my heart to hear him say that he is better off there than getting out and facing what is waiting for him (after serving 20 years for cp). He works in the kitchen and the other day he told me that he and his friends get to eat the food on the trays left over from the night before that didn't get passed out that sat out all night to be thrown away. He said they figure if it has food poisoning from sitting out all night or bacteria that it will help build up their immune system so when they are out and living on the streets and have to eat out of the garbage cans....they can survive it. I want to scream and cry at the same time.

You can choose not to go to the halfway house and spend the remaning 6 months right where you are. My husband would have chosen prison in a heart beat over the 30 days in a halfway house. he said the house was FAR WORSE. Don't do it.

Laurie727 - I fully believe that the laws will have changed considerably in 20 years and your son has much less to fear than he thinks. What's more, I believe some things will get reversed and your son will be out MUCH earlier than 20 years. Have faith. We are all working on it. After all, the people who make the laws now will be retired or dead!! :))

Claire, I don't know whether to laugh or be frightened at myself but truly the best and most uplifting thing I have heard in a long time is what you just said......the people who make the laws will be dead by then. LOL Am I terrible for feeling better thinking of that or is this situation just that terrible?? LOL

To Johnstxmom My husband got 14 years prison and 3 years supervised release. He had a hand-picked jury by prosecution trial. If he had took their plea bargain he would have gotten 15 years. He could not take their plea bargain as he was innocent and refused to say he was guilty even when his so called therapist repeatly tells him he has to admit to guilt because of our sincere religious belief about lying. Now, while I know this was not the subject I wanted to share that they ordered my husband to take a polygraph test but he was unable to because of his non epilitic seizures and first stages of dementia. So, they tried to violate him for refusing to take polygraph. I did a little research on seizures and polygraph test and dementia and polygraph test and found that it was against the law to force someone with these conditions to take polygraph. The court appointed my husband an attorney for his alleged violation hearings and my husband's attorney and paralegal took what I had found and found a little more and presented along with my husband's doctor saying that he could not medically handle a polygraph test. My husband won and they were unable to violate him. We were praying and we continue to pray that they don't try something else. Thank you all for your prayers and we will continue to pray for you all also. I have been praying for SO and their families since I found out about the awful things they are forced to endure since 1985.

Oh yes, you do have to pay for halfway house after you get a job or if you are over 62 your social security checks start coming in.

one of my son's friends is going to a halfway house and it is going to cost him half his pay he dosen't want to go he tells him that they are forcing him to go. You know Laurie will our son's be able to get their Social security if they haven't held down a job in many yrs. I am praying that with so many being released that your son will get to be moved to Seagoville. It breaks my heart that they are having to live the way they do my son just turned 34 I hear the heartbreack in his voice when we talk on the phone he keeps himself busy and trys not to think about what could have been!

My son said they are giving them the option there to turn down the halfway houses. I don't know what Downward Departure is???
I have wondered the same things about Social security and how that will effect our boys.
It all just worries me so much.

Where as, you are correct that Federal lays heavier incarceration time, but I disagree that state courts set lower probation and registry time. My son got 10 years incarceration, 10 years probation, 4 years work release and a LIFE time on the registry.....all for teen age relations with his girl friend. The whole truth is, we just need to abolish these laws! For everyone!
