Wearr what ever the prison says tell you is OK for you to wear on a visit. whatever colors,(for example some places forbid visitors from wearing denim in any color and also forbid wearing blue because denim is blue and because inmates in that prison wear denim etc..) . what ever length of skirt, blouse buttoned up to where ever they say..no sun -dresses, nothing low cut, certain kinds of slacks but not shorts, caprees, no leggings etc) Just comply because the visit is more important than pushing the envelope and getting the visit denied at the gate. Depends on how sensitive the metal detectors are whether an under-wire bra will set the thing off! And do not try to take anything (contraband) in. You do not want to be arrested.

I'm not sure how long it will take for your husband to be allowed to have visits etc and which 'list' you will need to be on, Also you may need to find out about putting money on his books, getting on his mailing list and finding out about phone calls and how much they cost. All that varies from prison to prison and from state to state Just do whatever the rules say and don't let all that stuff keep you from really enjoying your this first visit...Take care.

Hi , yes obey rules of dress ,remember his I.d number , they can not let you in , when I first went ,I thought they would look it up , but no , so we can bring 40.00 worth of dollar bills and change in a clear Baggie or a small clear purse , we now write his i.d number on a dollar bill, also ,I bought a jogging bra ,and definatley NO stretch to your pants ,even if they aren't tight . You should get to visiting place early ,they call so many in ,at a time , good luck

I'm 500 miles away ,so we stay in a hotel when we visit ,but even you should bring extra clothes and sneakers with you and keep in your car ,

I have been through max, med and now min security in the last 2 years. I just dress nice. Trying not to be "Sexy". Sometimes the visiting rooms can be cool so I wear long sleeves. Check with the prison to see if the take cash or debit /credit cards and what company. Hutchinson Kansas only takes Visa cards. I was out of luck on my first visit because I only had Master Card. After that I went and got a Visa debit card (I opened a checking account at another bank that has Visa.). The facility that my husband is at now is cash only. Luckily now I can bring in pre made good like McDonald's ect. as long as I have a receipt. Enjoy your visits. They mean a lot to him and you.

ALWAYS have extra clothes and shoes in your car because the COs can interpret the dress code any way they feel like it, even adding things that aren't on the web-posted list. For instance, if they say no khaki-colored pants, that might mean nothing that's light brown or tan or beige or cream colored. If they say no beach sandals, that may go on to include any shoe that doesn't have a strap around the back. [Yeah, in Florida, for awhile, they were relaxed about footwear at the place I visited, then suddenly became uptight after a VIP visitor complained about what he saw family visitors wearing.] And we can't wear sleeveless garments even with a shirt or sweater on top because they're worried that we might remove that shirt or sweater.

The place I visit limits us to bringing in $20 cash, and only in five- and one-dollar bills or coins. During the time I've been visiting, the vendors have increased the prices in their machines, but the facility hasn't increased their limit in what we can carry in.

Make sure you know the correct visiting days and times! Last September, the facility where I go went from visits on five days a week to only three days a week, and then in December they went to visiting only every other week. My guy's opportunities went from 20 visiting days a month to only 6 in just a few months! And they recently kept his mom in the visitation room for two hours before they even called him to say she was there.

One of the reasons that you want to comply with whatever silly rule they have currently come up with is that once you come to their attention for any thing..then they give you 'special attention" (like leaving a visitor out in visiting for a couple of hours because they 'forgot' you were there/ not calling an inmate up to visiting because they 'forgot' stc.) It's called a 'silent beef' and basically means they enjoy making things difficult but doing it in such a way that they can also claim you don't know what you are talking about / are a troublemaker if you (dare) complain about being left out in visiting for two hours claiming what you are talking about ...its sort of a sophomoric Got-ch game played by bored/ stupid/ vindictive guards. The only way to win is never play their games.

You will have a better idea of what is acceptable when you go to visit and see the other visitors. I also want to add, don't wear anything form fitting, this can even mean anything skinny cut. I've even seen them turn away a women wearing a maxi skirt of all things saying it was too form fitting but I've seen people in the visiting room with pants that look sprayed on. They may single you out and not allow you to wear certain items but allow others to.

Prison visiting is a place the Constitution forgot. (You don't even have the 'right' to pee unless some guard agree to allow you access to the toilet) And some guards (like some other orison wives) "single us out" primarily because we are visiting a "sex offender' One of the women who posts here on Daily Strength said she was turned on and scolded by another visitor when the person standing in line realized she was there to visit a loved one convicted of a sex offense. Other women find that even in prison's with SO "Yards" since SO's have to leave the common visiting rooms 15-20 minutes before other prisoners wives, that they find themselves singled out and stared at by other visitors who imagine their husband's conviction somehow make then and their family "better than" It is kind of hilarious but then I guess like inmates and visitors in the chicken coops of the Prison Industrial Complex all across the US or A.., there is a pecking order and people fight for the "privilege" of throwing others off the ladder...LOL but it does not feel funny when you have driven 500 miles and waited in line forever...only to be told by a smirking "official" the rules have changed...But do not object at this point. "Objecting" is against the rules and the guard can say you are 'argumentative' and suspend LL your visiting privileges. So...If you can manage to smile, say Yes Sir and don't let them bait you...then guess what? You win.

Basically just follow every rule (that you know about) so you don't come to the attention of some guard who has grown bored with picking his nose and decided it might be fun to single out some visitor for whatever reason. The best 'revenge" is to have a wonderful visit with the person you love in spite of their spite...You know just to spite them? .

I haven't had any problems, just be sure to have extra clothes in car just in case. I usually wear the same type things each time to be sure no of no problems. I had one women complain about too many SO's here. I said "I don't judge others cause you never know when it could happen to you". She just looked at me and never said anything else.

I had to go out and buy special "prison" bras since all of mine had underwires in them. The underwire will set off the alarm and you won't be allowed in, unless you can cut the wire out and remove it. Also, no pockets or hoods are allowed where I visit and I layer my clothes since the room is usually cold.

You asked...Does anyone recommend what to wear when visiting? . Follow the rules as best you can. Wear a smile. And for heavens sake, just enjoy seeing and being with your honey.

I always keep lots of different clothes in my car when I go to visit. I have worn one thing one week and then the next wore the same thing but those guards didn't like it for some reason. Its' better just to do what they say and not argue. I just go change and come back. It's very frustrating but it's better than not getting to visit at all that day.
