my husband is currently serving a 5 and half year jail sentence. He’s set for release in a little over year. It’s been a very difficult and miserable 4 years. I love him dearly. I don’t have any issue with him as a person, but lately I just think about divource. I’m scared of the stigma and harsh reality of being married to a sex offender. It’s hard losing friends. My dad told me I made a big mistake marrying him. If it was temporary state, I wouldn’t worry as much. It’s forever and I don’t think it will ever get better. I want to have children, but it seems cruel to put a child in this situation. I don’t know what to do. Do I divource him purely because I can’t cope with him being a RSO?
Depending on the crime (5 years does not sound too serous) there are places you can live without the stigma really hitting you. It does get better, and despite the laws looking worst and worst in some states other states are looking more at the facts and making better polices.
I would try to make it work and feel it out before making the decision for divorce. I can assure you, that you are the world to him while he is behind bars and a year left you are on the down slope!
Never sacrifice who you are to make a relationship work, and make your own choices.
