Has anyone heard about google offering cheap calls

My son is finally in his "home" facility. He is in Danbury in Connecticut. He said that he was told that you can go to google for phone service. You enter the zip code and it will generate a local number for the inmate to call. you have those calls forwarded to your phone number. He said its about 90 cents for a 15 minute call. Does anyone use this?

"Google Voice" will give you a free personal phone number and you can use "Google Hangouts" to call anywhere in the USA/Canada toll free.

I doubt you can use it to within prison walls as they'll want to be able to monitor everything but it works well for other calls...

I have used it before when my husband was in county jail in California. With my regular number it was $4.15 with a 15 minute phone call. With google voice it became I believe $3.75. Not much of a difference but it's California.

I would definitely look into it for the sake of cost cutting measures. But when I tried bringing it up to my husband he said that they do not allow any kind of call forwarding in his area and we had an automated voice would chime in when they thought we were 3 way calling, which we weren't.

We used this in the county prison until they caught on and cut the phone number off. They wanted proof we lived in that city, like a utility bill with name and address. So that was the end of that. If they catch you they can take off your phone privileges but many do it and get away with it. I guess it comes down to do you want to take that chance...
But I have another question for you. My son will probably be transferred to low by next November and I was looking into prisons closer to us than where he is now. I was trying to research Danbury-Low - is your son in the low there? Can you PM me with some information on that prison. I would really appreciate it. Like food, classes available, AC (that's important to my son-ha!), email access, how is visiting there. I realize you might not know too much so soon but would appreciate any info you have.

By the way - starting November sometime phone cost are suppose to go down everywhere. I think Joe would pay 3.15 for 15 min. and it's suppose to go down to 1.65 - not sure if it did yet.
