Got my Order of Removal today

I got my order of removal from the sex offender registry today. It also says that my fingerprints and arrest card are to be destroyed and proof will be mailed to me. It could take as long as two weeks before I am out of lein and off of the registry. I am happy to finally be off the registry, I thought this day would never come honestly.

But what pisses me off to no extent is the fact that i was eligible for removal in 2008. I never knew this. I have went thru 6 years of anxiety, emotional hell, depression, and a stage I call pre suicide. I would still be on the registry if I didn't go into the courthouse to get my original conviction to see what it was comparable with when I moved out of state. Thats when I found out that on my 30th birthday my record was expunged. I was never notified of this. I was never notified that there was a chance I could get off the registry.

I am thinking about suing the state of michigan. Any thoughts on it.

I would say you should sue for the suffering they put you through and the humiliation. I from what I read, you have a great case and a very high possiblity to win. So I say go for it, you deserve to after all that. Go for it.

While a lawsuit sounds great in theory it's your 'job' to know the laws and how they apply to you. (Which we all know is impossible). For that reason I don't think a lawsuit would go anywhere.

Save your money or donate to fight the registry via one of the organizations out there.

A quick shout out to those with money to burn - IL Voices of Reform is collecting money to file suit against the state. They want $25k to start and are up to a little over $12k.

Was it a juvenile crime? Because I haven't heard of expungement for any other registerable offense.

Congrats!!! I agree with Ivydog! Save your money and go on with your life. I am in the legal field with civil stuff and I can tell you that it could take years and as far as I am concerned, they took enough from you. Keep your JOY and live life! Congratulations!!!! So happy for you!

Great Job!!! welcome to the club of getting off SOR if I were you I would just let suing go it will drive you nuts I went through the same thing I was mad at the state of California because they made me move out of this house that I had just rented because it was too close to a school before I was forced to move I asked the sheriff if the state was gonna reimburse me the cost of moving I was mad because I had to borrow $1,000.00 just to move in the place plus the cost of the rental truck the sheriff just laughed at me.......it was not easy because being disabled and on a fixed income believe me the thought crossed my mind but I just let it go besides what lawyer will take your case? if you wanted you could go pro per the only thing I did when I got off was to call the sheriff and I told him you made me move for nothing he asked me why I was calling I said it makes me feel better I said I hope you were happy making a disabled vet move I ranted and raved then I let it go anyway congrats again!!!!!

If you still live in Michigan, remember this. They will take your hard earned income tax and spend it on a team of attorneys to defend themselves against you. YOUR money to fight YOU. seems foolish... yeah it might be cool in the short term but unless you are independently wealthy and can afford to toss money like that, there are better ways to spend your time and your money...
