While I'm not registered yet or don't know what will happen with my case I can tell you it seems us northerners seem to not care as much. From everything I've read and experienced people tend to let people be up here and let them carry on with thier lives. There is an RSO that lives down the street from me and lives about as normal life as you can imagine with no harrasment.

I agree with others. New England is pretty good to offenders. I live in Maine and back in February I was charged myself and forced to register. I can say from my experience everyone from the judge to probation has treated me with respect. I do not have police or other law enforcement stopping me every 5 feet from my house asking me questions or have not had anyone say anything negative while I am out. The worst thing so far for me is loosing my 10 year job. That was a big part of my defense that I was long term employed. My lawyer was very upset when I told him I last my job due to probation requiring me to inform them of the felony and what the charges were. I did not have to go door to door and let all of my neighbors know that I am a RSO. I think you did the right thing to let them know. I also think that if your fears come true that you end up dealing with a intoxicated person be ready to call the local police. there is no reason anyone should be harassed weather we are on a registry or not. IF it happens to me I will definitely let my probation officer know right away especially if it is someone that lives very close to me. She may wish to confront them.

As far as moving goes, if it is instate than all you should have to do is let probation and the registry know where you are moving too and let the new local law enforcement know that you are RSO and you are moving into their town. I also know that if you were to go out of state you would need to get a pass from probation to leave the state before you actually leave.

I had 2 address checks in 10 years. Northerners have so many real criminals they leave us alone!

We get them every year sometime more then once a year. For some reason a US martial comes along with a cop. They are a pain.

They come twice a yr here, once in the spring and again in the fall since my son registers in the winter and summer. They come in plain clothes and an unmarked car and they don't make a big show. If no one's home a business card is left on the door. Usually it's just one person but last fall it was two of them. People around here leave us alone. There isn't any door to door notification and we live in an area where there's real crime to worry about.

no door to door notifications in Mass?! is this dependent on the level? is there a tier system? In OH, if you are Tier 3 they send the cards...

They were here once to verify. I wasn't worried. Tho' the PO knocked on my neighbor's door once and asked her questions about my hubby. She told him, that we're quiet people, keep to ourselves and that we don't cause any issues. The neighbors all know about the family drama. And neighbor on one side is related to one of my best-friends so we all had a long talk about it and when she'd see my step-daughter around she would tell me..."hey she walked by here". She said it's funny how once my step-daughter was out of the house all the drama stopped, and she was not real pleased to see my step-daughter anywhere near the house.

I can verify that New England is the best place in the country for us. When I was on probation they came 2 times a year, but there was like 5 of them and tried to use the old scare tactics. Now that im off of probation they leave me alone. I get a letter every year that I have to mail back and have to register on my birthday month. Thats it. Granted im my city its the city authorities not the county or state that runs their programs but at least my city has some common sense as long as your cool with them.
