“One thing is correct; we’re throwing the kitchen sink at violent sexual predators. That’s an accurate
characterization of the bill” -- FL State Rep. Matt Gaetz
“I wouldn’t characterize my feelings towards those folks as hatred, I don’t think it rises to that level, but I can
guarantee you I darn sure have a bias against them, and I admit it, because they’re raping our children, and the mentally disabled, and the elderly. How can we not have a bias against them? That’s ridiculous.” – FL State Rep. Ross Spano
"We think that very long sentences are warranted; in fact, we'd like longer sentences. And I would just say in
closing that with respect to smart justice that maybe what we ought to really be doing is thinking about giving
the victims’ families an opportunity to have visitation with the perpetrators and a pair of scissors. That's our idea of smart justice, Mr. Chairman, not anything short of that." -- Barney Bishop III of Florida Smart Justice Alliance
This was just from the closing arguments from yesterday's FL House Judiciary Committee meeting. I listened to this sickening display and couldn't believe my ears. I can't tell you what was the worst of these. Was it the "Smart Justice" speaker advocating vigilante violence on the committee floor? Or was it the Rep admitting to a personal bias? Or was it the Speaker of the Committee gleefully joking about throwing the kitchen sink at registrants?
What people don't understand is that we have to challenge the dominant way of thinking HEAD ON. Where the bloody hell was the rest of the FAC, much less any registered citizen? Is Gail Colletta the only one with the guts to stand tall in this den of vipers? Nakohichi, where were you yesterday?
