We lived in a society that if you worked hard you got benefits. We lived in a society where government didnt have so much power over us. We lived in a society that was about family and neighbors.
Where are we now? Its all about me. Not really. But that is where we are. Us as Americans think we are so important and it is all about us. I love the technology today but also think it has hindered us.
I get so upset with how this society is. I think i would rather live on an island.
What is the answer?
westdenali, I always thought a island would be great, but even the island would get old after a while, but you are right on with your comments, I hope you have a good week also.
Sometimes it really gets to me how people treat others; the things we do to people in the name of this or that all while turning blind eyes to what they do to others. I am just overwhelmed today with all the stress I have been absorbing and having no way to release it in safe ways. So, I figured I would put what I feel and what I think into words.
They do not really understand that probably a 3rd of the felonies in the US Code only exist right now because of technology. I would venture to guess that probably 99.9 percent of the people arrested for possession of CP would not be in that situation if it were not for technology ... the majority of those folks are not deviant and if not for technology would have never "sought out" CP - but because it is there at a button push they get wrapped up in a World fueled by their curiosity and many times become addicted.
I believe that the perceived meaning of humanity that it means a person is fundamentally good in some way. Then what is fundamentally good? Who makes that determination? What is the difference between fundamentally goo and fundamentally bad, is there really a difference once each individual's perspective is being added to the mix?
I agree with Advocate2, that if it weren't for technology there would be remarkably less CP charges putting people in prison. There would be less identity theft. There would be less entrapment stings going on as well. There would be no DNA testing and we would rely again heavily on eye witness testimony. There would be less bullying for all ages, as the internet allowed someone to poke and beat on folks from a distance, causing misery without having to really face the person they were attacking. This cultivated a whole new breed of bullies. I also agree that I wouldn't be as knowledgeable about all of this if it weren't for technology. So the sword is double edged, no matter how you slice it, something is going to get cut off.
I personally do not have much faith in the human person as a species. They are not nice at all to their peers or other species. They seize opportunities, not minding if they step on a few heads as they climb the ladder to success. So I can't really blame technology on all the ills of this world but the same people that have been doing harm to other people of this world in the name of 'whatever'. Right now it is in the name of the children, at one time it was in the name of the king or country. Whatever the reason, humans are not nice to anyone or anything if they believe they have 'earned' something in some way.
If I look to biblical scriptures then mankind is inherently evil and will stop at nothing to advance their own greed and thirst for power over others. After all, all history testifies to the fact that at the core is man's obsession to conquer others in the name of this or that cause or belief. Thus, like you, I too have no faith in man save one -- that man will act as savagely as one is allowed to act for acting with humanity is an act of courage that man too often fails to possess.
I have long since said, my curse began the day I cracked the book to study law. In gaining education I also imprisoned myself in knowledge of just how corrupt man is and how deep they will travel to do their evil deeds. The Internet, which is brought about by technology, is a wonderful tool to gain knowledge, but at the same time it sweeps us in like an addiction that lays a curse upon us because in knowledge we are able to commit greater evils than we could before unless we choose to act with courage and rediscover our humanity.
