Is this common? I always assumed that the FBI forensic people were the experts for the government. But my husband got a notice that the US prosecutor has retained the services of an outside forensics person. I looked him up and he is a cop from Louisiana whom I googled and it indicates he has studied computer forensics. Why would government do this when they have a lab of experts? My husband's federal defender has also been given a budget to hire an independent forensics expert so I am wondering if this is the government's way of playing tit for tat. Seems like overkill but it appears the US prosecutors like that kind of game playing. Kind of unfair the prosecutor gets the use and services of an FBI lab AND an outside forensics expert....but who said anything about fair, right??
We hired our own forensics guy for my son. His report was clear and 2 pages long, stating exactly what was found.
The FEDS forensics was huge, redundant, unclear made it look like my son is a creep.
You have the right to hire your own forensics reports. I don't know where you are but if you're in Floriduh I could give you the contact on the one we used. He said my son accidentally downloaded that cp and that he will always be available if we ever need him.
I agree with Nak. If you have doubts you can hire your own forensics and have your lawyer go over the results.
