Is it possible to change? Sure. The biggest thing cognitive behavioral therapy teaches is finding what triggers the unhealthy behavior and fixing the cycle. But it also teaches empathy. Putting yourself in the victims shoes and trying to understand what is happening from their perspective. If you truly did the work I don’t see how you could offend again.
Will you ever be able to have kids of your own? Yes. There is no law that says someone on the registry cannot have a child biologically.
If/when he is off probation he most likely would legally be allowed to see your cousins as well. Whether your aunt and uncles are comfortable with that is another question. But for me I never want to be falsely accused of anything. If I’m around kids it’s with other adults around. So maybe he agrees to only be around your cousins with supervision.
What state are you in? This will go a long way in determining how comfortable it is to marry a registered person. If you are in Massachusetts it is very different from being in Florida.
It really comes down to what you want, not him, but what you want.
He is attached to the registry for a minimum time period. He is limited on jobs, travel, family restrictions, where he can live, what he can do, even how he can act.
I longed for a deep relationship with one I can love and have kids with. I eventually go it. Bit now my significant other has second thoughts on it all. She said I warned her in the beginning that life is tough on the registry. She hasn’t realized it till recently. We have been together for 5 years, I doubt we will make it another 5.
Best advice I can give you to help you understand. Learn about the registry and how it works. Not just the surface of it, but go deep and learn about it. There is a lot of things the media leave out bc the media is all about drama and bad news.
Next, learn about him and his case. You need to learn his triggers, how his minds works, what stresses him, I wouldn’t be afraid to go talk to a counselor or treatment provider and ask questions about the general mind of an SO. It’s a disease and there is nothing to cure it but common sense.
I leave you with this, and I’m more than willing to chat more about it if you want. What are your dreams?
He can become really successful and do great in life, but he will still be attached to the registry.
