I don't live in that county, and what is amazing to me is that no one apparently has yet to file a lawsuit. If I were a registrant, I think I would be willing to go to jail rather than to give in to this requirement, but that's just me. And..it is easy for me to say what I might do. They on the other hand might be afraid to do so for any number of reasons. We had a petition on our RSOL site for registrants, their family and friends to sign and then send on to the district attorney in that county. Out of a potential 2 million +++ people, we got just 500 signatures. We have over 300,000 people affected in California alone. If people expect any of the damage to change, we have got to get more people to stand up, and speak out, hiding is just going to make it that much harder. DO THE RIGHT THING, EVEN IF THE RIGHT THING IS A HARD THING.
remember law of power... appeal to their self interest. bring up that it would be in their self interest to let them wear their street cloths; seeing that it gives more detailed information about the person.
I, for one, have given up so much to fight for your rights! I am not on a registry, and yet I and many others here have put their lives and that of their families on the line.
We donate, we volunteer, we travel, we write letters, we give up jobs, we sacrafice our own sanity, because our own families don't understand why we sacrafice them for registrants.
I gave up a teaching job partly to allow enough time to fight for this cause, I have traveled 12 hours to lobby at the state capitol, have spent countless hours in meetings, countless hours at my desk writing, reading, and educating myself on this subject. Flying to other states, driving many hours, driving and speaking at council meetings, spending lots of money that could have been spent on my own family.
So, when I see people, who don't offer suggestions, but only negativity about what we try to do, I just want to throw my hands up and give up!
If every single family donated the price of a cup of coffee to a legal fund, (RSOL has one) we could begin to fight these battles.
ONEOFTHEM, you suggest, "We need to get down and dirty" "grass roots measure to take back our rights" Exactly what do you mean? If you have a suggestion, then let's hear it!
Some have even given up their lives. I have met some mothers who have died fighting, so in their memory, I will not tolerate those in which we are fighting for, to be so negative instead of encouraging.
Petitions in general are useless, I agree. But, this petition had a purpose. It was sent to a District Attorney that is hell bent on creating false fears, and restrictions upon restrictions. He is traveling from city to city with his evil sidekick. And yes, these laws will eventually end up in your backyard. Why can't people understand this. Who had a registry before California? Most states are allowing California to lead the way to see just how restrictive they can be. We have to stop the bleeding now, and then try to get some of this reversed.
One of our lawsuits will eventually make it's way to the U.S. Supreme Court. If we do get a more suitable justices in during the next few years, we have a good shot at overturning some of these laws. And does this not affect you too?
I am sick and tired of seeing the few doing all the work. I see the same names all across the land. What happens when these few people get tired, get sick, or just give up because no one else gets it?
Will it get so bad that we are all in prison? How do we fight from there?
This is an absolute outrage!!!
you are correct they should really contact ACLU they would have a field day; especially if you have to do this off of paper.
I am a member of CA-RSOL, that's how I found out about this outrage. I work with Janice.
The ACLU have been contacted, and are unresponsive!
