This is a news cast from my neck of the woods. This one gets the golden turd award for melodramatic journalism.
The gentleman (so) seen standing in the doorway is a dear friend of mine and former chairman of a nationally recognized self help group called Reaching out From Within at the minimum prison in Lansing. He was instructed to say he had no comment. Unfortunate as he is an accomplished public speaker. The news casters sense of shock and dismay and biased portrayal is predictable. More disturbing is the fact all of the men with the exception of a man who served time for murder were ordered by the same parole office that approved the residence to be out by Friday.
The men have contacted the ACLU who has promised aid.
I don't send this to the group to upset you but rather to encourage you with the news that nearly everyone I share this story with is more outraged with the ignorance of town folk of Edwardsville, Kansas and the disgustingly false pathos of the reporters than anything. Some of the things said are so incredulous I can hardly believe they were expected to be taken seriously. One of the ladies I work with called her husband right away after viewing this to check and see if one of their rental homes was free for these guys. The least supportive comment I heard was the question; well where are these guys supposed to live?
From what I've seen stories like this are backfiring, and that is an encouraging thought.
On a very very small scale it's reminiscent of the civil rights movement when the peaceful protestors had dogs and fire hoses turned on them. Most experts agree that was the turning point when America began to wake up to these abuses.
The second link shows just a little research behind why Kansas so far has not gone the route of residency restrictions for SOs. Very informative facts that need to get out there as the same logic in many ways applies to the harm the Registry does.

Every since this article ran the news stations around here won't let up with Stranger danger stories. A young guitar instructor was bonded out after being charged with inappropriately touching students. He cut his ankle bracelet and absconded. I would argue because he knows the legal lynching his in for as opposed to receiving help with his illness.
The news headlines.. "This is news parents certainly don't want to hear". "A parent's worst nightmare to know this individual is on the loose".. Afterall we are evil monsters and that's what we do 24-7 right? I'm so sure this young man is lurking in the alleyways, while hiding from the police, just waiting to jump out and molest some unsuspecting child.
The media certainly does its level best to promote the stranger danger myth. Everything we've read and talked about here, all of the research and facts on how misplaced our approach to sexual abuse is, is completely lost on these tragedy mongering buffoons and their legions of lemmings. Very sad.
But on a positive note again, many, many people are upset as to what the men are going through as a result of all of this. So keep poking us media, keep up the stories that level headed people recognize as unfair treatment of people who are just trying to get on with their lives.
