My son was convicted in a trial by jury of sex assault, F4, in Colorado. He has been in jail awaiting sentencing, since Aug 24, 2012. His lawyer promised him on Aug 27 that she would visit him in jail every week on Monday. Here we are two months later, and she has only visited him once. Promise broken.
She refuses to answer his collect phone calls from the jail. I kinda don't blame her, because they're very expensive. But how in the world is my son supposed to get her help, if she won't answer his calls?
So, he calls me and asks me to send her a text or an email with his question. She usually answers me, but not always. But, he needs her to visit him and go over his letter to the judge, so he will have time to revise it, if necesary. His hearing is in 8 days
Should my son send a letter directly to the judge, bypassing the lawyer? Should I write to the judge directly? Should I call? How can best I help my son?

honestwitness, since you are in a different state, my advise might be wrong. However, we did write to the judge directly, and not through the attorney. But, we wrote the letter, not our son. I find it very rare that any attorneys hold to their promises unfortunately.
Hopefully someone else will come along with some better solutions.

here's the thing....
"He has been in jail awaiting sentencing," <------ not much for your lawyer to do at this point in time. he (son) has already plead guilty, found guilty, or plead no contest. not much for the lawyer to do next. there is not much research on your lawyer's end. now it's all a waiting game till the sentencing, and to see what the judge is willing to impose. yes, the lawyer is waiting to get back from the probation and parole to get a psi (pre-sentence investigation), which just means the probation and parole is going to look into his criminal history (if he has one), they may make him have a psych. evaluation. that is all determined so the judge can make a correct judgement. but on the lawyer's end.... not much to do...
