As a former sex offender the biggest message I can tell everyone is don't ever lose hope. I thought I would be on the list forever. Shunned by society, never see my kids play sports or graduate from high school. But by some grace of God I got off the list. I was supposed to have lifetime Registration. It started out as 25 years for a game of truth or dare when I was 16 where a 12 year old gurl was dared to touch my penis by her friends. I didn't stop it so that's why I was charged.

Fast forward 14 years I was planning on moving out of state. Couldn't take Michigan's Registration laws so my wife and I were leaving. I went up to the courthouse to see what my exact charge was comparable to if I moved out of state. I went to the juvenile probation office and they told me that my record had been expunged. It was expunged automatically on my 30th birthday. I had no idea. I was confused. What did that mean. They told me that I was eligible to get off the list. I had to have a judge sign an order and that would be sent to the state police and I would be off. I filled out the request and I waited and I waited and I waited.

Almost a month after I filled out the paperwork I got a letter from the Judge saying that I was getting off the list. An order was sent to the Michigan state Police requesting my immediate removal from the Michigan Sex Offender Registry. The letter states that as of October 27, 2014 I am no longer required to register as a sex offender. The letter is framed in my bedroom, I also carry one in my car "just in case".

So everyone don't ever lose hope. I had no idea that mine was expunged. Had I not gone up there I probably never would have known honestly. I would have been on it for life and just went about things as I was told. I hope my story has helped someone.
