Depending upon what he was convicted of If his conviction is for anything related to a child (and if he was a juvenile when he was convicted it's probably child sexual abuse since most children who "molest" do molest outer minors ) he's always "free" get you pregnant but he might not be able to live with you and your child afterwards. It really all depends upon which state you live in (his supervision restrictions) and what sort of charges. Also, you probably need to check with day care facilities etc because even if he can live there with a child in residence, he probably can't be allowed to baby-sit by himself. It just goes on and on...Check it all out and then both of you will now what you're facing and can decide accordingly.

I am brand new to this subject still and it's something that I consider when contemplating dating and if things do get to the point of marriage.

I would think that two consenting adults who completely know each other with absolutely no secrets, that decide to have children could do so without having to ask permission.

This would be different if say one or the other parents have children of their own. That presents a whole litany of challenges and precautions to take.

It goes without saying that the RSO who is married still has to abide by all of the rules when it comes to not being at schools etc. (which is a deal breaker for the other spouse usually because she or he feels that it is a family event and that you should be there for important landmarks or graduation, etc.) It also goes without saying that the consenting couple should talk about EVERYTHING concerning this and what he or what she expects to happen, what is to happen (things that are more concrete), and what to do to prevent from things happening.

I don't think the issue is about whether a couple can get pregnant...(with or without permission that's been happening for thousands of years!) I think the issue here is whether, once the child is born, both parents will be allowed to parent their child or will he be forced to move out (or the child will be removed from both parents by Child Protective Services and placed in foster care) because there is now a child in the household with a "sex offender" because he has some past conviction for CP or child sexual abuse (or even when a child himself was he charged with child sexual abuse for having sex with a minor child) Parole officers change and it seems important to know what the law actually says in his case before making the decision to get pregnant.

My uncle didn't, but I could see why some states would require it.

Discuss the issue with his PO......make sure that you understand the rules that he must adhere to. Also, refer to his sentencing order-it it says that he's not to reside with a minor child, then he may not be allowed to parent his own child. Also, talk with the Registration deputy with local law enforcement along with the PO......There are so many factors involved-what his charges are, what his registration level is, what the individual state laws are, and what his sentencing order says. In the meantime, keep the birth control handy until you have all of the information you need to make a fully informed decision. If you have the resources and it's allowed in your state, hire an attorney to argue and get a court order from a judge to allow him to reside with his own child

If Im not mistaken......in NJ you have to take a LIVING WITH CHILDREN assessment.
Parole can reject or accept that assessment therefore denying you the right to have children with your S.O. BF.

My son wants to marry his GF, who has a child, but they need to get approval to take the assessment AND once the assessment is complete.....approval from Parole to marry and live with them.

Parole in NJ is horrible. They get to mandate everything in a S.O.'s life.

Megans law is horrible.
