I don't have cable tv. Do you know if one could find this broadcast on the Internet?

Google, oprah winfrey network It will take you to the web site, you can enter your zip code and it will tell you what channel OWN is on in your area. Also it looks like you can watch the video on the web site. click on Lisa Ling Our America and look at this documentary series. So far lots of people have watched this series and it is getting great reviews, I just hope America is paying attention, and I hope people will see inside the lives of so's and their families, and the damage that is being done.

From the previews I have seen it seems they are only looking at one type of offender. Those who have committed an act against a child. I did not see anything about Romeo/Juliets or those who are on the registry for lewdness, indecent exposure or other similar crimes. I don't know maybe I look at things in a whole new light, but I am afraid in some ways it may not be as great a thing unless they look at it from all perspectives. If they portray these offenders as monsters, society will continue to see our loved ones in that light. They need to portray all types of offenders, all ages, all genders and all races. Maybe than there can be change..Just a thought.

I just watched the documentary online. My biggest problem was with Lisa's final concern about re-offending, "that someone will suffer and that someone, is someone's child." It is still ingrained in society that ALL sex offenders are CHILD molesters, CHILD rapists and CHILD murderers. Her comment has a tendency to reaffirm this and it is so WRONG!

I so agree with you. I watched it and I felt it barely even touched the truth of the matter. The fact that so many people will suffer for consensual relations or something minor. They are punished for life..... Why would society not even see how unffair and how unjust this punishment is. I did agree with one thing on the show it was the fact the guy on there said this law doesn't protect anyone it just a way for society to feel safe. The only way you could truly prevent it from happening is to lock them up in prison for life. It sucks and we all need to stick together and bring out the truth so some of these young men can get their lives back. God Bless you all. RC

I am new to this group (although not to DS) and I'd love to see the documentary if somebody has a link.

It's kind of sickening to me as a mother when they talk about the victims being someone's child. They definitely ARE and I can't imagine what the parents of a child victim go through, but the "offender" is someone's child as well.

I think my biggest issue is that the whole thing has gotten so emotional that nobody thinks rationally anymore. Too many people believe that all offenders are monsters, and none should ever have anything resembling a "life" again. With virtually every other offense, most people believe that once you've served your time or done whatever the judicial system deemed fit punishment, you should be able to re-enter society and live somewhat like a normal human - but not with sex offenders.

I agree with all of you and it is hard to get people to listen to anything else not saying that being a SO is a good thing but you are right there are different types and different levels and people just don't get that. Maybe one day it will change we can always hope can't we?

I think we should inform the network of the bias approach that was taken in this documentary. We NEED to make sure that when there is a misconception being aired that it be corrected .
