Wow the comments are barbaric and everyone has the same mindset it's sickening how society thinks about these young kids I'm so glad I'm not part of society and thankfully never will be

What is so very sad for me is that first of all the kids are so immature they do not seem to understand the magnitude of the situation they are in (and I do mean the situation not necessarily what they have done) and secondly the "treatment" they are getting seems to be teaching them that something is wrong with them that needs to be fixed. Maybe that is true for a few but I would be willing to bet that most of them were just normal kids! Emphasis on the WERE becasue they will never be the same again after this ...

These kids are homeless, hungry and have drug problems, the sex seems to be a distant 4th in their issues. They learn the easiest way to get a meal and a bed for the night is to prostitute themselves, which is horrible. If you take the adult abusers out of the equation, with out giving the children a better option, their choices become starve to death or commit crimes to survive.

I am particularly interested in changing the way we treat JSO's because I believe many were themselves incested / assaulted/ abused and traumatized (with nothing done for their protection) and if they go on to act out their own mistreatment on others we .charge them, punish them with "life on the registry" and imprison them (harden them up for the big leagues?) and in so doing we just ensure the continued "bloating" of the Registry into the next generations instead of doing anything to head off more harm to more children in the future.

If most people believe that SO's can never change, it makes sense that courts overly punish everyone, including children convicted. About 1/3 of the registry are under 18 years old.

Its so sad.. I am a mom in a state where 17 makes u an adult.. My son had consentual teen sex but being viewed as an adult in our state has led to that act resulting in my son sitting in an adult jail. Facing the rest of his life as a convicted felon AMD a lifetime on the registry.
