Delete computer browser history...and go to jail

In another example of the law of unintended consquences...or maybe not so unintended (who knows?)...a 2002 law written to make it easier to prosecute corporate misconduct is being used more broadly. So, don't try to delete your computer's browser history (even if you've not done anything strictly illegal). Don't try dumping fish overboard, either.

Don't save it in the first place. I use Firefox in private browser mode with "Don't save history" on by default. (Same as on my phone....

Sorry to say that Firefox's Private browser is not really private. Official browsing history and cached files are still stored in ur computer as what is known as the page file and various other locations. I agree it does MINIMIZE the browsing history, but it will not stand up to a simple forensic analysis of your hard drive.

You are correct that any file written to a hard drive can be recovered no matter what. What this doe do is remove you from the inference that you intentionally erased the files on command. (31 years IT experience.)

I also use a program called "Eraser" that performs a DOD certified erasure that over writes the deleted free space portions of the hard making forensics impossible. If you use Google you need to tell your settings not to store anything in the cloud....

Ok i see what you were saying now. You were saying to use Private mode as a way not to be accused of intentionally deleting your history and not as a way to stay totally private. And while DOD erasure will work on spinning hard drives, be aware that data remanence is prevalent with flash based drives and media. (Solid state , etc.)

Having more memory reduces the use of pasgefil.sys. I also have moved it to an 80gb SSD....

True but you dont want to ever totally disable the pagefile. You want Windows to use it from time to time rather then the RAM. The RAM can concentrate on Superfetch better. Putting it on a seperate drive is smart though.

Yes you don't ever want to disable the pagefile. I also moved all TEMP & TMP files to the SSD for performance...

I have seen legal cases that say even the presence of a wipe program on your computer shows the intent to commit a crime. Lets face it, most prosecution theories are just plan lies to get a conviction. There is nothing noble about the prosecutors office despite the garbage that is shown on TV.

So anyone who enables "Bitlocker" on their Windows PC is to encrypt their hard drive is also creating intent?
