From our experience, it's whatever your PO decides is important at the time to the PO.

Reporting new jobs & new residence I would say are very important. You have limited time to report it to the PO and police department. That's an important one.
As far as honest and upfront on job apps.. I don't know about that one. This country forces us Not to be honest just so we can survive.

yeah, I'd say the ONLY reason to do all that is to avoid jail, and seriously, if I was the one the registry and had no family, I'd probably drop off the radar. I'd rather be free and do as I pleased for at least a little while, than be a prisoner ALL my life

Why stay compliant?
Simply put, you will go to jail for FTR!!! In most states, and the Fed, FTR is a FELONY...In some states, like mine, if your conviction was a misdemeanor, then FTR is also, but is still 90 days MANDATORY, the Judge has no say in the matter except to give more time.
As for being up front about felonies on a job app, if the app asks, just put down 'yes', what else can you really do? Most companies really only care about drug and theft convictions.(obviously working around kids is a different story).n I am registered, but also have a security clearance.(I work in the defense and aerospace industry).
You ask for personal experience, I've been registered since 2003, to be honest, convicted of a misdemeanor not a felony, and because my state rejects the Adam Walsh Act, this time next year I will no longer be registered.
Some here will disagree with me,n but the best thing to do is "Play the Game" and do what is required. My PO came by for the first 6 or 7 months of probation, only came inside twice, event though I invited him in every time and I was always 30 minutes early to my monthly check in and he released me 18 months early from probation...He was a good guy, but those who screwed with him?? Also, the cops only come by every year or two, they have better things to do, exact words from a detective.

I work for a company that does not have a problem hiring those with felonies as long as it is not drug or theft related a well. I have seen some unbelievable things come back as ok from legal. My favorite (terroristic threats) as a good to go lol!

My son was as honest as he could be with his boss without outright telling him he was convicted of a sex offense and that he was on the registry. His boss told him he believed in second chances. He told him about being in jail for a year for a computer crime and that he was on 5 yr probation.

My son's PO makes monthly visits but he never comes in. Sometimes he doesn't even get out of his car. as far as the police, they come by about twice a yr, once in the spring and again in the fall (he registers in the winter and summer).

We were just told that my son has to tell his employment and his landlord about his conviction. The company he's applying to doesn't care but finding somewhere new for him to live will be trickier. They are now insisting that he doesn't work in a different country to where he lives. All these little rules ... oh joy.

Yes, the PO does set the rules and they can, and often do, change. As for reporting on job applications, the PO or county, municipality or state can set this also. Some areas say the box does not have to be checked and employers can't ask.

sorry for the late reply here.. been really busy.. what I'm wondering is when jobs ask "do you have any felonies" and you say yes, but don't elaborate... my fear is that they allow felonies but not SO felonies, but don't look into it.. but then find out later by word of mouth or whatever... my man got a really nice job finally, and he disclosed that he has a felony, and how old it is, but not what it is. they said since it was x amount of years old it didn't matter...

also, he has been putting off registering at my residence. and has yet to report new job. Im sure he has not yet reported the job because he's afraid they'll contact the employer and he'll loose the job. He doesn't want to deal with the humiliation of going through the card notifications again as he just did a couple months ago when he had to move to his current (registered) address. I'm so scared for him...

now this child support bullshit has started, and his ex is running his registry info all over the web, talking a bunch of sh*t... It makes me so sick and furious. How could someone who loves and want the best for their children post that crap all over the internet where their child who supposedly was a victim of him has to see it?!?!?!

So far (at least while he has been on paper) my son has gotten more hassle from the judge that oversees his case than he has from the PO or the cops (with a rare exception)

All residences, jobs, etc. must be reported according to the guidelines and laws, unless jail/prison is the desired outcome. If the "box" is checked on the application, they hired him with complete disclosure on his part. Follow the rules and you are good to go.

I agree with coolrich, he needs to do what he's required to do unless he wants to risk jail time. My husband recently lost his job because the company he works for assumed he has a felony. He doesn't and we have the proof of it, but they don't want to hear it...but at least he did what he was supposed to and can use that when it comes down to it
