I just heard of another case where a young man was downloading some files from a music site and was also sent CP that was attached. He has been charged, convicted and imprisoned. There are so many people who have been falsely convicted of possessing CP by accidentally downloading it from some site. Don't the law enforcement realize that these files are downloaded by what I call "piggybacking". They are attached without the person knowing it. I hate to think of how many lives have been destroyed by this. Once you are branded by this your life is never the same. You are an outcast of society and your reputation can never be restored. Just makes me so mad that in this day and age we are still so backwards in so many things.
"Okay. You got a computer virus. How come you downloaded the virus?"
Of course no one will say they purposely download a virus but it happens all the time. CP can be downloaded the same way without the users knowledge. It's very easy to lead someone to think they are downloading one thing only to end up getting something entirely different. The problem is the law isn't interested in how it got there only that it's there. Computer forensics are capable of determining the method of the "Infections" but the law isn't interested. They only want another notch on their belt to show what a great job they're doing.
Anyone who uses Peer-toPeer software is especially vulnerable both by direct download or by being a seed sever for other folks downloads who are using your connection. There really is no safe way to use Peer-toPeer software as sharing your internet with the world is how it works.
Someday when the burden on law enforcement (baby sitting RSOL's) becomes so great and only then will the enforcement become smarter and realistic.
Trying to come up with proof.. and we had forensics proof as well.. won't stop them. They just don't care. It's another notch in their belt. They get metals for catching people like my son.
You want to come up with the perfect defense? There is none.. because my son had that. .
