Be sure to end your email with a question, something to the effect of: Do you think this ok and what do you plan to do about it?
They are required to answer, if memory serves me correctly. 0lus, admin staff could care less about radio shock jocks. Their jobs consist of planning fundraising events and. Getting promo free concert tickets.
The public file is a very small part of their job. And once these a-holes ratings go down, the general manager will be campaigned to drop a particular syndicate.
I sway go for it. You Will make a differenced.
After writing the above post, it dawned on me that I failed to even mention the FCC. The FCC has a very simple e-form for filing complaints about indecent broadcasts. Here is a direct link to this form:
https://esupport.fcc.gov/ccmsforms/form2000.action?form_type=2000E
Tips for filling it out:
The top section is for your contact information. Pretty straight forward.
For the lower section, here is some help in filling out the details:
Question #1: Clear Channel Communications / KFI AM 640
#2: a) KFI b) 640 (leave TV channel box empty) c) City: Los Angeles State: California
#3 Leave Blank (not applicable)
#4 a) Local Program b) John and Ken Show c) 09/01/2011 d) 3:00 PM
#5 a) 09/01/2011 b) 3:00 PM
c) (Provide a brief description of the indecent broadcast)
Here is where we need to get the FCC to care. In my opinion, I believe the thing the FCC will probably act on is the fact that these 2 gave out someone's personal telephone number over public airwaves and then that this person was harassed and threatened by this radio station's listeners. This is very reckless behavior, and the FCC will hopefully consider fining KFI if it gets enough complaints. Even a fine will send a BIG message. And, remember, the bigger they are, the worse it is to get into trouble with the FCC. Clear Channel is a HUGE company which has had serious financial difficulties of late. They need problems from the FCC like we need a hole in the head. Clear Channel / KFI has had a month to fire or even suspend these guys. They haven't. Send Clear Channel and KFI emails. Then, fill out an FCC complaint and send it.
We can stop media promotion of hatred if we stand up and do this. Please take action now, friends!
If you click on the link, it will open a page that says not found. Then, if you just put
https://
in front of
esupport.fcc.gov./ccmsforms/form2000.action?form_type=2000E
Then it should work.
I also am drafting an email in regards to this issue.
KFI allowed John and Ken to give out, over the public airwaves, the PERSONAL cellular telephone number of an immigrants rights activist and encouraged listeners to call and harass him simply because John and Ken did not agree with this man's stance on immigration - specifically, the Dream Act. How is it that a broadcaster licened by the FCC is allowed to broadcst the personal contact information for someone with whom they do not agree or whom they do not like on our public airwaves? According to an article in the L.A. Times, http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-adv-john-and-ken-20110930,0,6290281.story , this man has received hundreds of hateful and threatening telephone calls (some with calls for VIOLENCE) from KFI listeners as a result of this reckless behavior. I believe the FCC should fully investigate KFI and that KFI should be held accountable for allowing its on-air hosts to act in such an indecent and malicious manner over the licensed public airwaves.
Feel free to use this to help you write your complaint. I'll post any replies from the FCC here. I still have yet to write to KFI and Clear Channel. When I do, I will let them know I've already filed a complaint with the FCC. This way they know we're not messing around.
