Where do they get the information in background checks? Is it court records, police records? And if I want to run a backgroumd check on someone where is the best place to go?

Also what all is included in the check. Is it just arrest records and convictions?

Do I google background checks? What is the best one to try? I want a legitmate check.

I have had to go to the sheriffs dept several times to get my own background check done for companies that required it. It doesn't cost much here in Ga, don't know about other places. It basically shows your criminal background if there is any. I had to have a TSA background check as well that cost 90.00 that is more indepth.

Background checks are usually done by service companies that do that specifically... They will utilized court records, internet searches, sherrif dept records, all the addresses in which you lived, sometimes even a credit check, depending on the institution.

I have been called once or twice in job hunts to verify information from a background check depending on what it is. I would start with a credible service online and go from there, I know Career Builder offers something like that.
