Anyone from PA here?

I've been talking to my husband and he's pretty set that he wants to stay for his whole sentence so he doesn't have to deal with probation. Since he is doing that we can move anywhere we want and we've always wanted to move to Pennsylvania (my kids have been asking to move there for years). My question is what are the sex offender rules there? Are tier 1 offenders on a public registry? Are there restrictions on where you can live? I know everything changes constantly but he'll be out in about a 18 months and I'm hoping to be settled somewhere around that time...or at least in the process of getting settled.

We're in Philly and my son is tier 1 and on the registry.

Some say that most of PA is to the right in politics except for Philly and Pittsburgh , which are liberal.
Life is very different,, depending on which city of PA you choose.

I moved here before my son was released in Floriduh. One big plus was there are no residency restrictions. PA's supreme court decided it's unconstitutional.

Thank you for answering. I know every tier is on the registry but is your son on the public registry? I know in NY and NJ if you look at the online registry tier 1 offenders aren't on there and they don't send a person's info to the local schools. Is that how it is in PA?

but it doesn't really bother me. We're in Philly.. people have busy lives, and it's the city of brotherly love. Most people here aren't looking for someone to pick on. He's on for 15 years.

If we stayed in Floriduh I would worry, because people down there seem to have nothing better to do then to f**k other people up.

It wouldn't bother me too much except I have 3 kids and I don't want them to come home from school with fliers with their dad's picture on it. Oh well.

They don't hand out flyers in Philly. You have to decide what's most important. I don't think there is a perfect place.

I'm in PA also, and we haven't had any issues. My kids haven't come home with any fliers. They don't "paper" unless you're designated an SVP. There also aren't any stipulations against parks etc. (As long as the SO isn't on probation/parole) My hubby can go to amusement parks, fairs etc.

Also concerning the registry there was a big discussion quite a while back on the board about whether when you move somewhere the SO laws apply from the state you were adjudicated or the state where you move. So far I have been able to learn this much - if you are on probation or parole the state where you go had to fo0llow the rules of the state that adjudicated you. What I have not been able to find out for sure is whether when you move somewhere off paper whether the SO laws in that state apply or not (for example the tier system) - FL does not have that and everyone is on for life but I have sent some emails to a few states and they tell me that if a person off paper moves there they would be subject to the registry rules of the state where they moved. In a case like yours and Nakos it is good that they were/are not on any registry yet.

I'm in PA. Have had no problems at all. Like Nako, I am in Philly.
What ever his Tier designation is when released, will follow him to PA. If he is lifetime there, he will be lifetime here. Same goes for Tiers 1 and 2.
Everyone is on the public registry regardless of Tier. That happened in 2002 or 3. Not a problem in a big city.

I live in Chester county in Pa, outside of Philly. And my son will be sentenced on Aug 21st. I find most people I talk to don't even look at the registry and thinks it's a waste of valuable resources that could be used elsewhere. But there are a few Politicians that it use every time there's an election., because of the Penn State scandal. Pa is a beautiful state that I hope my son will be to make life for himself when he gets home.
