If they ask what he's in for, tell them drugs. Send him commissary so he can have something else to eat besides a block of soy. And so he has underwear and socks. Send him books so he has something to keep himself busy.

I know how you are feeling. We are going through the same thing with our son right now. Allowing him to call us and visiting him as much as possible has helped him. We try to keep his sprirts up as much as possible. A sentence time to life is pretty rough. They seem to do this everywhere now. At least that is the way it is here in Colorado. We are praying that things will work out and your son will get into treatment very soon.

Its very hard.my son has been in county jail in tx, me in ca. He is waiting transfer to prison.he has been in for 10 mos. He got 12 years for a consenual act. Hang in there.as I wii do the same.

When one is doing time, one day becomes like the next and before you know it, it been a year. Years turn into another year within a short time. The key is getting into programs like trade school or what ever hobby.
Each person dose time diffenent, but I found never ask a lot of questions exspeaclty about other peoples crimes.
Attend as many self help programs as possible, don't borrow or loan any thing no matter what to any one, if he has it to give, give it. Never take any thing from any one ! I saw one imate die who loaned coffee to another imate. This imate was not able to pay the coffee back, so he kill the person, thinking his life was in danger. Its do it to them, before they do to me. Tell him to stay away from the gangs.
I enjoyed prison because it gave me the chance to change my life and I came to know Jesus Christ as my best freind. I saw and still do see world events caming to past that the bible talks about over 4000 years ago and we see them caming to pass today. I did about 4 years. My longest days where the day I knew someone was going to visit me, those days took for ever. Doing a year was easier than waiting a week to see my family but I enjoied the visits, but the wait. OH MY GOD

Just remind him how much he is loved no matter what. that you are there with him every second of the way and you need him to help you hang in there just as much as he needs you. God Bless you all as this is one of the most difficult things i have ever faced and my son as well so together we can do it.

There's an organization in Canada whose motto is "No more victims. No one is disposable." Your son is not disposable, though he may feel that on some days. He is as valuable as anyone else, anyone!

I am here too praying ... my daughter's fiance is in JAIL and this month it will be 2 months and his next hearing is this month on the 17th and we find out what is going to happen. But with his new charges he has ... not sure what will happen !!
