I got a telephone call today from a Republican running for Missouri Governor, in response to a report that I wrote and Rew helped me format into a web link, entitled Private Guardianships In Missouri. The gentleman wants to have a face-to-face meeting with me after he is elected (assuming he is) to discuss my report and how to better improve how people with severe disabilities are treated.
A portion of my report discusses sex offender laws in Missouri and how people with severe disabilities are all too often convicted of sex crimes that they never committed in the first place, but give false confessions because of the threats, intimidation, and coercion tactics used on them due to their disabilities making them exceptionally vulnerable to such.
Now, granted the guy has to get elected for any of this to mean anything, but it was certainly encouraging that a Republican candidate for Missouri Governor is showing interest, and an open mind to talk about the issues needing to be addressed. But I wanted to share the news with all of you nevertheless and no, I do not believe this was a case of the guy saying what I wanted to hear just to get my vote.

That said, I do agree that democrats file Bills that do serious harm to sex offenders and those who associate with them. However, while I would likely not give much weight to a democrat candidate for Governor calling me and inviting me to meet with them after they are elected, because in a legislative body controlled by the Republican's it would be symbolic, the fact a Republican candidate made the invitation put it on a different level given the political arena that exists here.
What struck me in a profound way is that the guy I spoke with was taken back by the things my ward and I have been forced to endure the last six years; the abuses of power, the deprivation of civil rights, the physical and psychological abuse inflicted on my ward by those in government, the corruption in our courts and administrative departments, and so on. There was true sincerity in his voice and a genuineness in wanting to meet.
But as I pointed out before, first he has to get elected.
The abuses you are blaming on one party is only because the other party hasn't been able to get a foot hold in your state yet. If they did and wished to garner as many votes as possible they would appeal to one of the unifying issues that spans all parties... which is what got Germany too... "If it is for the children, it is best." To think anything else makes you a monster too, BTW.
I also don't believe anything that comes out of any politician's mouth, for until they are in office and I am on their calendar and confirmed, all they give is lip service which does little for anyone. I believe that there was sincerity in his voice, he is trained to talk like that. for his ONLY Job is to get votes and keep votes for as many terms as possible or as desired. That was stated pretty clearly by a politician who's letter was posted on this forum, where he stated clearly that their job is to keep you happy, keep you distracted and keep you voting for them. All while never answering a single question of substance.
Sorry I am going to have to disagree with you that this guy is someone to get hopes up about... Even when hope seems to few and far between.
Second, I do not recall claiming that democrats do not do harm with sex offender Bills, to the contrary, for I specifically wrote that they most certainly do file Bills that create harms. However, I cannot very well blame the democrats in Missouri when it is the Republican's who control both houses, and I do not live in your state. Thus, while in your state the democrats have done most of the harm, in Missouri it is republicans who have done most of the harm.
which, wisconsinrsol is, as you say, clearly what got Germany too... "If it is for the children, it is best." and YELLOW arm bands and RED ankle bracelets (their easier to track all the usual suspects my dear") and RED Letters on Drivers Licenses and.... It's just clearly... to return democracy too all of America's children?
