I don't think you're heartless. You have to be strong for your kids; that's not to say yes as time goes by there's going to be days where you cry at the drop of a hat. I used to try to not cry in front of our baby (late DH's and mine) but when I got in therapy I was told it's perfectly ok to not hide my emotions.
I don't think you're going to fall out of love with him, especially since he's your best friend and you guys talk everyday! Plus he'll only be gone for a year. Yes that's a long time to be away from each other but a fairly short time. My hubz to be and I have some years to go before our happy ending!
I will say don't get yourself in debt with the phonecalls; yes it's great to hear his voice but before you know it when you see the bill your mouth may drop. So go to the post office and get lots of stamps! Continue doing what you're doing and before you know it he'll be home :)
Be proud of yourself...not guilty! I agree with gregsbaby. Letters can also ignite the flame of romance. Keep talking. Keep writing.
