Video Visits

Hi All - I referenced this article in a separate comment and decided to post the story and link for everyone since I think this will spread through the State and Federal prison system.

I don't have video visits in general because for some families it may be more cost effective than driving hundreds of miles. I don't even think the price is wrong considering the cost of gas, time, etc.

Where I do become enraged is with the suggestion that video visits are offered to the exclusion of a face-to-face visit. That's wrong and borderline immoral in my book.

I know many of you believe you have little power, but prisoner families did manage to get the FCC to roll back phone calling prices. It took years, but you wore them down. Maybe an equally vocal group can influence the video visit conversation.

Human contact is vital to their rehabilitation process and for us out here waiting for them, just to survive. I HATE VIDEO VISITS... I drove 3 hours 4 times a week to see him. Through snow storms, tornadoes, I didn't care. I spent the money instead of buying myself things like clothes and sitting in restaurants chatting endlessly like women do with their girlfriends. I chose to find ways to be physically with him. Hell yea I would try to help stop this. If I know how, I will.

The video visit might be cheaper then go to see yhem but those physical visits and seeing them in person just way to vital for them anf us. I used to drive 4+ hours once a month to see him for a weekend and yes I went though floods, fires, rubbish roads to see him oh and stod in line waiting to go in and see him in all sorts of weather. .....and I wouldn't of changed a thing!
Yes I can see a place for these visits especially if a family has no other way of seeing there loved ones but they should not just go with one type of visit why can they not do both? Just for those who cant get to the prisons to see there loved ones in person.
