you should be able to add him as an occupant but not an actual lessee. check your state dot gov website. there should be a link for renter's rights in your state. good luck. take care of you.

YES ,IM SURE HE S ALOT OLDER THAN YOUR SON,BUT WHEN HE WAS 18 HE STARTED DOING DRUGSMHES BEEN IN JAIL ,PRISON ,COUNTY ,REHAB HES BEEN THIER,I"VE BEEN IN COUNSELING WANTING TO KNOW WHAT DID I DO WRONGAND THAT WAS I DIDN"T STICK TO WHAT I SAID. I am dealing with the same problem with my son getting out in 6 months. I own my home so I dont have to worry about the same things but I am scared to death he will go back to drugs and all the horrible things that go along with it. Susanna, I think has the right suggestion, for both of us, short term or not at all.
My son will be 30 this year and his 2nd time in prison. I love him to death but I think he needs to do this own his own this time.

thats disgusting to know that background checks are made...just to find somewhere to live? isn't that being bias? illegal?
A persons private life is just that..private.
all they check on here on oz is if you have lived elsewhere and that your a good tenant that pays their rent and looks after the property...doesn't matter if your an ex bank robber or current one..

I work for an apartment complex in okla and all they law says that if we do a b/g check on one person we have to be fair and do it ony every one. If they don't allow him they can not allow anyone with the same background. that is all. it is only illegal to discriminate against race, color, religion, sex, hanicap, famililal status, or national orgin. I have to agree with susanna & suziskatr, you're setting yourself up for a huge disappointed if you have him live with you. Sure, having him stay with you for no more than a couple of months is good for both of ya'll, but anything longer than that can wreck your relationship. When my son, Jason came home from prison for the first time, it fantastic at first, then he started back with the drugs and drinking and was a very big instrument in ruining my marriage. Starting fights with me, his brother, his step-dad and, well I won't go on about that. Then, his second time out of prison, the same thing happened again, except I'm still married to this one. Then, one other time just when he and his new bride had no where else to go. He went from my house to county. Even though I miss him terribly and would give anything to have him right here with me, I know that we would be fighting within a month. He's locked up now and I won't be seeing him for 2-3 yrs. But, we have already agreed that he won't be moving back in with me. Anyway, the whole lease thing, bad idea. Help him find his own place or a half way house. Good luck! Kim
