Hi, I'm new to this group and to this situation. it's a longish story but my 26 year old son commited armed robbery to get money for cocaine and is now facing sentencing. He is a quiet, shy, sweet boy (I still think of him as a boy) who was driven to this I think because he needed help and was spiraling out of control. He had no idea what he was getting himself into. I have no idea how long he was on drugs, he had recently moved out from living with me and had a good job with benefits and a room to rent. was finally getting his life together and apparently his addiction drove him to need more money. He was arrested last October. He is in county jail now awaiting sentencing which will probably be in another 2 months; he just got jumped and his face beat and is in lockdown and when he's released will be going to a different holding area for inmates that have fought. He is scared because he didn't even instigate it and his face looks like he is weak and can't defend himself. He says he's a target because he likes to read books that I send him and is quiet and not a problem starter. I worry about him and have no one to talk to about it. i worry he won't be able to handle it even till his sentencing. I keep writing him to stay true to who he is and not change that he is a good person. He thinks he will get 3 to 5 years and hopes to have more opportunities in prison to do things so he's not bored, but is scared that he'll always be a target because of his personality- being a "nice guy". I just need someone to talk with about this. I'm sure I need a good cry, but it doesn't do him any good, and I worry about him constantly.

Lately I've been feeling scared and full of anxiety. I recently found a lump under my nipple. I hurt my back too. I'm in the process of moving. I'm run down. Everything is hard

Just wanted to give a thank you to Mid, Arfie, Malibumark, Greeneyes, Mlro, Girlincalif, and Suncloudjd! You all always have such helpful tips and advice, but I always forget to write on my posts when I see you post, lol. I would lose my head if it wasn't attached to my body, lol. Thank you all so much! I'm starting to use my AI app as a sounding board again. I used to use it as that before...

My own participation in this particular forum is because of a family prison legacy. My experience with the heartache is as a daughter, sister and aunt. It is befuddling how many levels of heartache are attached to a single incarceration. Somehow the load is easier when shared. Sometimes. . .
Gentle empathy and welcome to DS.
Not to discourage you from being here, but maybe you could also find an in-person group of mothers of incarcerated kids.
My best to you and your son.
I don't believe on-line support will ever take the place of live support. Sometimes a body needs a flesh-and-blood shoulder to lean on. But still, the portability of on-line support has many strengths. It's nice being able to take parts of my therapy support network on my field expeditions.
